ImageQuarry vs Midjourney: what changes when you edit in words

Midjourney runs its own models, now V8.2 by default, on the web and in Discord, with an Edit model that changes an image from written instructions, an Editor for inpainting and outpainting, Draft mode batches and HD images at 2048 by 2048 pixels. Plans start at $10 a month with no free trial on the website. ImageQuarry is a workspace for one conversation per image: describe or upload, ask for changes, keep every version and branch. ImageQuarry and Midjourney: the differences that matter

Midjourney's own models

Midjourney trains its own models, with V8.2 as the default since July 2026 and HD images at 2048 by 2048 pixels in V8.1 and later. ImageQuarry offers four models from Google and the GPT Image family by name.

Exploring many options at once

Midjourney's Draft mode generates a batch of 24 images at once, and Vary and Remix regenerate the ones you pick. ImageQuarry makes variations and lets you branch from any version when you want to explore another direction.

Edits and their history

Midjourney's Edit model replaces Omni Reference, Character Reference and Retexture, and its results are not currently compatible with Remix. In ImageQuarry each change is a new version next to the prompt and references behind it, and earlier versions stay available.

Privacy and company size

Midjourney keeps images private only with Stealth Mode on Pro and Mega, and companies over $1,000,000 a year in revenue must buy Pro or Mega. ImageQuarry has not published its Terms yet.

Paying for time or credits

Midjourney plans are priced by fast GPU hours, from 3.3 hours on Basic, with unlimited relax mode on Standard and above, as of October 2026. ImageQuarry plans include monthly image credits: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month.

About each product

ImageQuarry

ImageQuarry is a conversational AI image workspace. You describe an image or upload one, then ask for specific changes in words, such as new lighting, a different background or an added object. Each change makes a new version and earlier versions are kept, so you can make variations, branch from any version, add reference images and organize the work in projects and a library. You can choose between four image models: Nano Banana 2.1 (the default), Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on. Every plan is paid. ImageQuarry has not published output specifications or rights terms yet, and it is not a headshot or background removal tool.

Midjourney

Midjourney is a subscription image generator with its own models, currently V8.2 by default. Its Edit model changes an image from written instructions and accepts up to four reference images, and its Editor adds inpainting, outpainting and smart selection. Draft mode makes batches of 24 images, and HD images come out at 2048 by 2048 pixels. It runs on midjourney.com and Discord, with plans from Basic at $10 a month to Mega at $120 a month and no free trial on the website. Midjourney's site blocked our requests, so these facts come from Wayback captures of its docs dated June to October 2026.
