Facetune alternatives for retouching selfies and portraits
Facetune is Lightricks' selfie and portrait editing app for iPhone, iPad and Android, with a web editor: smoothing, reshaping, hairstyles, makeup, AI headshots, an outfit changer and an AI assistant that edits from simple prompts. People look elsewhere because continued use after the 7-day trial needs a subscription from $25 a month billed monthly, you must cancel 48 hours before renewal, and no resolution or commercial-use statement was found. Lensa fits a similar selfie app, Evoto fits photographers who retouch on a Mac or PC, Remini fits repairing blurry or old photos, and Gemini fits typed edits at no cost. ImageQuarry is a general image workspace, not a retouching app.
We make ImageQuarry, one of the alternatives below. Facetune and each alternative were compared on portrait retouching tools, editing in words, phone or desktop, subscription terms, usage terms and price, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 20, 2026.

What is Facetune?
Facetune, from Lightricks Ltd., calls itself "Your Everyday Editing Tool Companion" and promises to "Fix lighting, touch up details, and apply aesthetic filters in one tap." Its App Store listing names Smooth, Reshape, Whiten, 20+ hairstyles, Beard & Hair, Makeup, Headshots and Filters & Looks. Its AI photo editor works "through simple prompts, where every edit is just a conversation away", and the online editor adds Vanish object removal, a background remover, an AI outfit changer and video retouching. Every edit starts from a photo you upload.
Facetune edits photos you already have; it does not generate images from text.

What Facetune does well
A deep set of selfie tools
The app lists smoothing, reshaping, whitening, 20+ hairstyles, beard and hair, makeup and filters, plus an AI Headshots tool that turns any photo into a professional headshot.
Ask for an edit in plain words
Its AI assistant takes simple prompts: "Want smoother skin? A vintage look? A stunning new hairstyle? Just ask!"
More than retouching
Vanish removes text, people and objects, and there is a background remover, an AI outfit changer, a photo and video enhancer and video retouching.
Phone, tablet and browser
Facetune runs on iPhone, iPad and visionOS, on Android, and in a browser on desktop or mobile with no download.
A full trial and a refund window
The 7-day trial gives full access to all premium tools, and web purchases can be refunded in full within 14 days of the first purchase.
Where Facetune falls short
A subscription after 7 days
Facetune is free to download, but "After the trial, continued access requires a subscription", from $25 a month billed monthly.
Strict renewal rules
You must cancel at least 48 hours before the renewal date to avoid a charge, and you cannot switch plans mid-cycle.
No output or commercial-use details
No resolution, export format or commercial-use statement was found on the pages read; the app is pitched at social posts and passport photos.
Prices vary by where you buy
The web monthly price says "final price may vary", and the App Store lists many in-app purchases without billing periods.
Why people look for a Facetune alternative
- You only retouch now and then, and Facetune needs a subscription once the 7-day trial ends.
- You want to retouch on a desktop app for Mac or PC, and Facetune offers phone apps and a browser editor.
- You edit portraits for clients and need stated usage terms, which were not found on Facetune's pages.
- You want simpler billing than cancelling 48 hours before renewal with no mid-cycle plan changes.
The 5 Facetune alternatives
Ordered by how closely each covers Facetune's job of retouching photos of people: another selfie beauty app first, then a professional retouching app for Mac and PC, then a photo enhancer, then a general assistant for typed edits, and last a workspace that is not built for retouching.
1. Lensa
Best for: Selfie fans who want beauty effects and hair try-on in a phone app
How it differs from Facetune: Lensa from Prisma Labs is the closest match: its Beauty tools (Hollywood, Hair Boost, Makeup), trending Effects, an Eraser that rebuilds the background, an Enhancer and hair try-on from one selfie. It runs on iPhone, Mac, Apple Vision and Android, and its App Store listing shows an Unlimited Access week at $2.99.
Price: Its App Store listing shows Unlimited Access (1 Week) $2.99 and Membership $35.99 (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: There is no web editor or price list on its website, and its license is personal and excludes commercial use.
2. Evoto
Best for: Photographers who retouch whole portrait sessions on a Mac or Windows PC
How it differs from Facetune: Evoto is built for professional photographers: per-face retouching, edits synced across a full set, background replacement and object removal, from shooting and culling through delivery. Unlike Facetune it has a desktop app for macOS and Windows, plus iPad, mobile and browser versions.
Price: Starter Plan US$80 a year (annual billing only); 7-day trial with 50 credits (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Subscriptions are annual only, each plan caps the number of devices (2 to 6), and the trial is one per account.
3. Remini
Best for: Fixing blurry, noisy or old photos of people on a phone or the web
How it differs from Facetune: Remini concentrates on repair rather than reshaping: Unblur and Sharpener, a Denoiser, an Old Photos Restorer and a Video Enhancer, on the web, iOS and Android. Its iOS app is a free download with in-app purchases, and its AI Photos feature generates alter ego photos of you on mobile.
Price: Remini's App Store listing shows $9.99 for 1 Month or for Pro Weekly (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: No public pricing page was found, and its Terms grant use for personal and non-commercial purposes only.
4. Gemini
Best for: Making a quick typed change to a portrait without a subscription
How it differs from Facetune: Gemini edits an uploaded photo when you ask, for example to change the background or add an element, and it can apply the texture, color or style from a reference photo. Its $0 plan includes image generation and editing on the web, Android and iPhone.
Price: Gemini $0 plan, or Google AI Plus at $4.99 monthly (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Results carry a visible watermark plus SynthID, and you must be 18 or over to edit images.
5. ImageQuarry
Best for: Portrait and editorial concepts where you change the scene, not the face
How it differs from Facetune: Facetune retouches the person in a photo. ImageQuarry is for changing the picture around them: you upload a portrait and ask for a different background, light or color direction, saying what to keep, such as the face and the crop. Each result is a new version, so you can compare them and download the one you choose.
Price: Monthly plans: $9 Starter, $29 Pro (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: It is not a retouching or headshot app, every plan is paid, and it has published no Terms or rights policy for photos of real people.
Who should stay with Facetune
- You retouch selfies on your phone most days, and the yearly plan at $77.99, which Facetune says saves 50%, suits that.
- You use the full toolset (reshape, hairstyles, makeup, outfit changer, Vanish) and want it in one app.
- You like asking the AI assistant for a look, such as smoother skin or a vintage style, in plain words.
- You move between iPhone, Android and a browser and want your editor everywhere.
How to try an alternative alongside Facetune
- Save your finished Facetune edits to your camera roll or computer before you cancel.
- Cancel at least 48 hours before your renewal date, from the store or website where you subscribed.
- If you bought on the web less than 14 days ago, you can ask Facetune for a full refund.
- Take two or three original photos (not edited copies) and run the same retouch in the alternative to compare the results.
Does not carry over: Your Facetune subscription and its premium tools stay with Facetune; a new app starts from your original photos.
