IMAGE VARIATIONS

Color variations of one image, from subtle to bold

Color is the quickest way to change what an image says. The same scene in warm amber feels nostalgic, in cool teal feels modern, and in a strict brand palette feels like an advert. In ImageQuarry you select an image and ask for a new color direction in words, keep each palette as its own version, and compare them side by side before choosing one for the campaign, the cover or the wall.

Name the palette precisely, change one color story per version, and compare.

How to make color variations with ImageQuarry

  1. 01

    Select the image

Start from an image you generated or one you upload. Each prompt stays with the image it created, so the original colors are always there to compare.

  2. 02

    Name the palette

Ask for a new color direction in words, as precisely as you can: muted terracotta and sage, ultramarine and coral, black and white with one red accent.

  3. 03

    One palette per version

Ask for one color story at a time so each version is easy to judge. Earlier versions are kept.

  4. 04

    Compare and choose

Compare the palettes side by side, choose one and download it.

Color variation requests

The first quotes one of ImageQuarry's own example requests.

Two-color direction

A pair of strong colors gives an image a clear identity.

Muted and earthy

Desaturated, earthy palettes suit calm, natural brands.

One accent

A single saturated accent on a neutral image directs the eye.

Seasonal palette

Retail campaigns change color with the season.

Brand colors

Matching a brand palette ties an image to the rest of a campaign.

Night to day color

Color temperature alone can suggest a different time of day.

How to judge color variations

Contrast carries the image

A palette with too little contrast between subject and background makes the image hard to read. Check that the subject still stands out.

Screens disagree

The same file looks different on different screens. For print, test the chosen version on paper.

Fewer colors, clearer message

Images with two or three dominant colors usually read more clearly than images with many.

Name colors in plain words

Specific names like sage, rust or navy guide the request more than vague words like nice or vibrant.

A request quoted from ImageQuarry

Color is one of the changes you can ask for in words on a selected version, and each change produces a new version.

Palettes as references

Add a palette card, a fabric or a photo as a reference for the colors you want; check each version against it.

What are color variations of an image?

Color variations are versions of the same image with a different palette, color temperature or accent color, used to choose the color direction that fits a mood, a brand or a campaign.

They are not a precise color match to a paint, ink or brand swatch. Use them to choose a direction, then check the exact color on the final medium.

Color variation questions

Can I recolor an image I upload?

Yes. Upload it, select it and describe the new color direction.

Can I change the colors but keep everything else?

Say what to keep as well as what to change. Review the new version to see how closely it followed that.

Can I go back to the original colors?

Yes. Earlier versions are preserved, and you can branch from any of them.

How do I match a brand palette?

Name the colors and add a palette reference. References guide the result. Review each version to see how closely it follows them.

How do I compare palettes?

Compare versions side by side, choose one and download it.

Will the colors print the same?

Screens and printers differ; test the chosen version on the final paper or material.

Is ImageQuarry a paid tool?

Yes. Every plan is paid: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, or Pro with more monthly usage.
