EDIT IMAGES

Change a background to a new color without reshooting

A solid or softly graded background color can make a portrait, a product or a profile picture look intentional. In ImageQuarry you select the photo and ask for the backdrop color in words, for example a warm sand, a pale sky blue or a deep forest green, while keeping the subject. Every request makes a new version, so you can test a set of colors against your brand palette and keep the original too.

Describe the color and its feel: flat, graded, paper-like, studio wall.

How to change a background color with ImageQuarry

  1. 01

Upload a photo with a clear subject

Photos with a defined edge between subject and background, such as a person against a wall or a product on a table, give the clearest results. Very fine hair or fur may need a second try.

  2. 02

Name the color and the surface

Say the color and how it should look: a seamless studio backdrop in dusty pink, a painted wall in olive, a soft gradient from navy to teal. Ask to keep the subject, its lighting and its shadow, then review the new version.

  3. 03

    Try the palette

Ask for one color per version. Each version stays with its request, so you can compare the set, choose one and download it.

Background color requests

Example requests, each producing a new version.

Brand color backdrop

Companies often want every staff profile photo on the same brand color.

Soft gradient

Gradients feel more photographic than flat fills.

Paper texture

A slight texture keeps a plain color from looking digital.

Seasonal color

Campaigns change background color by season.

Contrast check

A darker background makes light clothing stand out.

Match a reference

Use the exact color from a reference image.

What a good background color change needs

Contrast with the subject

Pick a background that separates from the subject's clothing and skin. Similar tones make the subject blend in, even when the edit itself is clean.

The shadow belongs to the background

A soft shadow under or behind the subject makes the new color feel like a real surface. Ask to keep or add a gentle shadow.

Color affects mood

Warm backgrounds feel friendly and close; cool ones feel calm and professional; dark ones feel dramatic. Choose by where the image will be used.

Fine edges need a look

Hair, fur, lace and glass are the hardest edges. Zoom in on them in each version before downloading.

Words and references together

Describe the color, or add a reference image for an exact tone; references guide the result and you review each version.

What is an AI background color change?

It is an edit in which you ask, in words, for the area behind your subject to become a new color or a new plain backdrop, while you say what to keep. ImageQuarry makes each request a separate version.

It is not the same as a full background replacement with a new scene. For that, ask for a new scene instead of a color, or see the product background page linked below.

Background color questions

Can I change only the background color?

Yes. Select the photo and describe the new backdrop color, and ask to keep the subject. ImageQuarry makes a new version and keeps the original.

Can I use my brand color?

Describe it, or add an image in that color as a reference. References guide the result; review each version to see how closely it matches.

Can I put every staff photo on the same color?

Keep the photos in one project and use the same wording for each. Compare the versions before you download them.

What if the edges around the hair look wrong?

Ask again from the original or from the best version so far; you can branch from any earlier version and try a different direction.

Which background color should I choose?

Choose one that contrasts with the subject and suits where the image will appear: soft and neutral for profiles, bold for posters and covers.

Which plan do I need?

Every plan is paid; Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month is the entry plan.

Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.
