Question
What image aspect ratios do Facebook and Instagram ads use?
4:5 for Facebook and Instagram feeds, at 1440 x 1800 pixels, and 9:16 for Stories and Reels, at 1440 x 2560. Meta's Ads Guide lists JPG or PNG files up to 30 MB. Making both shapes covers most placements.
Meta's Ads Guide lists 4:5 at 1440 x 1800 pixels for image ads in Facebook Feed and Instagram Feed, and 9:16 at 1440 x 2560 pixels for Instagram Stories and Reels.
For full-screen placements, Meta suggests leaving roughly 14 percent at the top, 35 percent at the bottom and 6 percent on each side clear of text and logos, because the interface covers those areas.
If one image has to serve both shapes, compose it with the subject in the middle and space above and below, so the 4:5 crop and the 9:16 version both work.
| Placement | Ratio | Recommended size |
|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed | 4:5 | 1440 x 1800 |
| Instagram Feed | 4:5 | 1440 x 1800 |
| Instagram Stories | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 |
| Instagram Reels | 9:16 | 1440 x 2560 |
