Question

Can AI images be used in ads?

Yes, if the ad follows platform policies and advertising law and the image infringes no rights. Some ads, such as Meta political ads, need a disclosure.

Advertising law applies to AI images exactly as it applies to photos: an ad must not mislead. A product image that shows features the product does not have is a problem whether a model or a camera made it.

Platform rules add requirements. Meta requires advertisers to disclose photorealistic images created or edited with generative AI in ads about social issues, elections or politics in certain cases, and says it will also detect such media automatically and add an "AI Info" label.

Check rights in what the image shows: real people, other brands' logos and copies of existing work need permission. See Can AI images include brand logos or trademarks?.

This is general information, not legal advice, and the rules differ by country.
