Question
What aspect ratio should I use for Instagram posts?
Use 4:5 portrait, 1080 x 1350 pixels, for most feed posts: it fills the most screen of the classic feed shapes. Instagram's Help Center lists feed photos from 1.91:1 landscape to 4:5 portrait at up to 1080 pixels wide, and crops other shapes to fit.
Instagram's Help Center says photos shared at a width between 320 and 1080 pixels keep their resolution if the ratio is between 1.91:1 and 4:5, wider photos are sized down to 1080 pixels, and unsupported ratios are cropped.
For ads in the Instagram feed, Meta's Ads Guide recommends 4:5 at 1440 x 1800 pixels.
Check the crop preview in the app before you post, and keep the subject away from the top and bottom edges so a slightly different crop doesn't cut it.
