Question

What aspect ratio does TikTok use?

9:16 vertical. TikTok is a full-screen vertical feed, and its in-feed ad specifications recommend 9:16, with 1:1 square and 16:9 horizontal also accepted. 1080 x 1920 pixels is the common size for a full-screen 9:16 image.

TikTok's Business Help Center lists vertical 9:16 as recommended for in-feed ads, at least 540 x 960 pixels, with square 1:1 and horizontal 16:9 as alternatives. Anything that isn't 9:16 shows with empty space around it.

As on Instagram Reels, the caption, username and buttons sit over the bottom and right side of the screen, so keep text and faces toward the middle.

If you are making one image for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, 9:16 works for all three.
