Question
Can AI keep the same character across several images?
Often, yes, with reference images and careful checking. Current models accept pictures of a character to hold a face, outfit or mascot steady across new scenes, but consistency is not guaranteed: small features can change from image to image. Compare each new image with your reference set.
Model makers document both the feature and its limits. Google's Gemini documentation describes character reference images used "to maintain character consistency". OpenAI notes its models "may occasionally struggle to maintain visual consistency for recurring characters".
What helps: the same two or three clear reference images every time, the same short description of the character, and one scene change per request. Check eyes, hairline, proportions and signature details such as a logo on a shirt.
ImageQuarry lets you add reference images, generate variations and branch from an earlier version, so you can build a series from one approved image and compare each new one against it.
