Question

How many reference images should I use?

Usually one to three, each with a clear job. One reference per quality you want (a texture, a color, a light, a character) is easier for the model to follow than a pile of similar images. Add more only when each one shows something the others do not.

Being able to add many references does not make the result better with each one. Google's documentation describes several kinds of reference, such as object images and character images, and each kind does a different job.

Too many references pull in different directions, and the model has to guess which wins. Name each one in the prompt: "image 1 for the fabric, image 2 for the color".

In ImageQuarry you add one or more reference images and review each new version to see how closely it followed them; if one reference is not landing, drop it and try again from the same version.

Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.

Give each reference one job

Add the few references that matter, say what each is for, and compare the versions.
