Midjourney and OpenArt: the differences that matter

A single model family or a model menu

Midjourney runs its own models, with V8.2 the default and Niji versions for an anime style. OpenArt offers models from many labs, such as GPT Image 2.5, Grok Imagine, Qwen Image 3, Nano Banana 2 and Seedream 5.0 Pro.

Characters and references

OpenArt lets you build a character from reference images or a text brief, save it and tag it in later generations. Midjourney's Edit model accepts up to four reference images and works with style references and moodboards.

Volume on a subscription

Midjourney Standard and higher include unlimited Relax mode images. OpenArt plans list monthly credits, from 4,000 on Starter, which it estimates at up to about 4,000 images, to 106,000 on Wonder.

Video projects

OpenArt leads with video: its use cases include short films, music videos, UGC ads and trailers, with clips up to 15 seconds in up to 4K. Midjourney lists animating among the tools on an image.

Commercial rights by plan

Midjourney lists general commercial terms on all plans, with Pro or Mega required for companies above $1,000,000 in yearly revenue. OpenArt's pricing lists commercial use rights on Plus, Pro and Wonder, while its homepage FAQ does not tie use to a plan.
