ImageQuarry and Grok Imagine: the differences that matter

Video from the same place

Grok Imagine animates pictures into videos, and xAI's API lists video models priced from $0.02 to $0.08 per second at up to 1080p. If you need moving clips as well as stills, that range is a reason to pick Grok.

An API with published per-image prices

xAI's developer docs price grok-imagine-image at $0.02 per image at 1K or 2K, with image input at $0.002, and allow up to 10 images per request. Developers can build on it directly.

Keeping and branching versions

ImageQuarry keeps every change as a version beside its prompt and references, and you can branch from any earlier version or make variations to explore directions. The Grok pages read for this page describe creating, editing and iterating but do not document a version history.

A choice of image models

ImageQuarry offers four image models by name: Nano Banana 2.1, the default, Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Grok Imagine uses xAI's own Grok Imagine models.

Plans and shared usage

Grok's consumer plans moved to The X Subscription on October 12, 2026: $0, Plus at $8, Premium at $30, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200 a month, with usage shared across Grok and Cursor. ImageQuarry has two paid plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, or Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on.

A company in transition

xAI's pages now title the vendor SpaceXSI while the footer reads SpaceXAI LLC, and its docs list an Imagine image quality retirement on November 2, 2026. Recheck the details before you commit.

About each product

ImageQuarry

ImageQuarry is a conversational AI image workspace. You describe an image or upload one, then ask for specific changes in words, such as new lighting, a different background or an added object. Each change makes a new version and earlier versions are kept, so you can make variations, branch from any version, add reference images and organize the work in projects and a library. You can choose between four image models: Nano Banana 2.1 (the default), Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on. Every plan is paid. ImageQuarry has not published output specifications or rights terms yet, and it is not a headshot or background removal tool.
