Clipdrop alternatives for cleanup, relighting and background work

Clipdrop is a set of single-purpose AI image tools (cleanup, background removal and replacement, uncrop, relight, upscaling and text to image) that Jasper bought in February 2024. Its text to image and prompt-driven background replacement are the only parts that overlap with ImageQuarry; the cleanup and cutout utilities are a different job. People look elsewhere because the Pro price shows only as a dash on the pricing page and the site header sends you to Jasper for newer models. Adobe Firefly covers most of Clipdrop's tools plus typed edits, Pincel keeps a Relight tool with published prices, and Photoroom suits sellers. ImageQuarry only fits people who want to change images by describing the edit.

We make ImageQuarry, one of the alternatives below. Clipdrop and each alternative were compared on tool coverage (cleanup, relight, background, uncrop, upscale), editing in words, newer models, readable prices and developer access, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 20, 2026.

What is Clipdrop?

Clipdrop lists Universal Resizer, Text to image, Replace background, Remove background, Cleanup, Uncrop, an Image upscaler, Relight and a Text remover, each as its own tool. Text to image asks you to describe a picture, after which "Clipdrop Stable Diffusion will generate four pictures for you". Cleanup is brush based, Replace background takes a description of where you want to be, and Uncrop extends an image to a new aspect ratio. InitML, the company behind Clipdrop, went to Stability in 2023 and to Jasper in 2024.

Clipdrop is a toolbox of one-step utilities, not a workspace for editing a generated image by instruction; its own text to image flow is to retry until a picture works.

Clipdrop pricing

Clipdrop's Pro price displays as "- per month" in both the raw page and a rendered browser, so no Pro amount could be recorded. Pro raises each tool to 1,000 uses per 24 hours, skips the queue for text to image and uncrop, and unlocks x16 upscaling, with a free trial. Prices as of October 2026, from clipdrop.co. Check the vendor for current pricing.

What Clipdrop does well

Daily free uses for each tool

The Free plan gives 20 uses per 24 hours of background removal, x2 upscaling, Cleanup and Relight, and 50 of the Text Remover.

A Relight tool

Clipdrop lists Relight ("Relight your images with beautiful lights") beside its cleanup and background tools.

Simple outputs for common jobs

Remove background downloads a PNG with a transparent background, Uncrop generates an image to fit an aspect ratio you choose, and the upscaler goes to x16 on Pro.

Commercial use is not limited

Clipdrop's site says "Our terms do not limit your ability to use images generated on ClipDrop for commercial use."

API and Photoshop plugins

API access now runs through the Jasper API with usage-based cost, including upscaling up to x16, and the FAQ points to Clipdrop Plugins for Photoshop on desktop.

Where Clipdrop falls short

No readable Pro price

The Pro price shows as "- per month" both in the raw HTML and in a rendered browser.

Newer models live at Jasper

The header links "Access newer models" and a Jasper Free Trial, and the API page says "Clipdrop is part of Jasper now".

No editing by instruction

Text to image runs on Stable Diffusion and returns four pictures, and no instruction-based editing of a generated image is described; the suggested flow is to retry.

Small free exports from Cleanup

Cleanup accepts any size, but exports on the free version are limited to 720px.

Upscaler limits are stated two ways

The upscaler page offers x2, x4 and x16 but also says it will increase size by up to 4 times and save as JPEG.

Why people look for a Clipdrop alternative

  • You want to see what Pro costs before relying on it, and Clipdrop's pricing page shows a dash instead of a price.
  • You want current image models in the same tool, while Clipdrop's header sends you to Jasper for newer ones.
  • You want to change an image by typing an instruction rather than retrying a prompt, which Clipdrop does not describe.
  • You need full-size cleanup results without paying, since free Cleanup exports stop at 720px.

The 5 Clipdrop alternatives

Ordered by how many of Clipdrop's tools each one replaces (cleanup, background, uncrop, upscale, relight) while answering the reasons above; ImageQuarry is last because it replaces only the typed-edit and generation part.

1. Adobe Firefly

Best for: Clipdrop users who want most of the same tools plus current models in one app

How it differs from Clipdrop: Firefly covers much of Clipdrop's toolbox, with Generative Fill, Generative Expand, Generative Upscale and background removal, and adds Prompt to Edit, where you type the object or background change you want. You can choose Adobe's Firefly Image 5 or partner models such as GPT Image 1.5 and Nano Banana 2, and Standard costs US$9.99 a month.

Price: Free daily generations; Standard US$9.99/mo (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: There is no dedicated Relight tool in the editing tools Adobe names, and Adobe's commercial safety statement covers its own models, not partner ones.

2. Pincel

Best for: People searching for a Clipdrop relight alternative with prices on the page

How it differs from Clipdrop: Pincel lists nearly the same toolset as Clipdrop, including Relight, Object Remover, Photo Extender, Background Remover and an AI Upscaler, and adds a text-prompt photo editor. Its Creator plan is printed on the page at $19 a month with monthly billing, and credits carry over while a plan is active.

Price: 20 credits for new users; Creator $19/month, billed monthly (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: No model names are given for its editor, and the free start is a one-off 20 credits rather than a daily allowance.

3. Photoroom

Best for: Online sellers who used Clipdrop for cutouts and backgrounds on product photos

How it differs from Clipdrop: Photoroom's paid plans include Background Remover, Retouch, AI Fill and AI Expand at no credit cost, and its AI Backgrounds Studio can add a Relight step. Edit with AI changes product photos from a typed instruction such as "remove the label". It has web, iOS and Android apps and a REST API.

Price: Free trial; Pro US$12.99 billed monthly (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: Exports are limited to 2K except on Ultra, and the Image Generator page names no models.

4. Pixlr

Best for: Light users who want cheap browser tools for fill, expand and cutouts

How it differs from Clipdrop: Pixlr offers Generative Fill, Generative Expand, background and object removal and Super Scale upscaling to 25 megapixels in the browser, close to Clipdrop's cleanup, uncrop and upscaler trio. Its Instruct Editor also edits by typed prompt, and Plus costs $2.49 a month when billed monthly.

Price: Free version; Plus $2.49 per month (monthly) (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: No Relight tool appears among Pixlr's AI editing tools, and Plus comes with 80 monthly AI credits.

5. ImageQuarry

Best for: People who outgrew one-step tools and want to keep changing an image in words

How it differs from Clipdrop: Clipdrop's text to image asks you to retry until a picture works. ImageQuarry instead lets you keep the image and ask for changes in words, such as a new background, different lighting or an added object, and each change becomes a new version. References can guide a material, palette or light.

Price: Starter $9, Pro $29, each per month (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: ImageQuarry is not a background-removal tool and lists no cleanup brush, uncrop or upscaler, and every plan is paid, so it replaces only Clipdrop's generation side.

Who should stay with Clipdrop

  • You use a handful of quick, single-purpose jobs a day, and 20 free uses of each tool per 24 hours cover them.
  • You need transparent PNG cutouts and Relight together, and Clipdrop's free tier already includes both.
  • You call Clipdrop's upscaling or background APIs through Jasper and your integration works.
  • You work in Photoshop with the Clipdrop plugins installed.

How to try an alternative alongside Clipdrop

  1. List which Clipdrop tools you actually use each week, such as Cleanup, Relight or Remove background, and check that the alternative has each one.
  2. Download the finished images you still need; background removals come out as transparent PNG files.
  3. Run the same five or six photos through the alternative's matching tools and compare edges, lighting and size with your Clipdrop results.
  4. If you use the Clipdrop API, note that it now runs through Jasper with usage-based pricing, and test the new vendor's API on a small batch before switching.
  5. Keep Clipdrop's free daily uses for the tools the alternative lacks.

Does not carry over: Clipdrop Photoshop plugins and any Jasper API keys belong to Clipdrop and Jasper and do not move to another vendor.

Clipdrop alternatives: questions

Is there a free Clipdrop alternative?

Adobe Firefly gives free daily generations, Pixlr has a free version, Pincel gives new users 20 credits, and Photoroom offers a free trial, as of October 2026. Clipdrop's own free plan gives 20 uses per 24 hours of most tools. Every ImageQuarry plan is paid.

What is a good alternative to Clipdrop Relight?

Pincel lists its own Relight tool, and Photoroom's AI Backgrounds Studio has a Relight option paid with credits. Magnific's navigation also lists Relight, according to an archived capture of its site.

Is there a Clipdrop alternative for face swap?

A face swap tool is not listed among Clipdrop's tools on its pages as of October 2026. MyEdit lists AI Face Swap, and Deep-Image.ai lists AI Face Swap in its tools menu.

Who owns Clipdrop now?

Clipdrop's site says InitML was acquired by Stability in February 2023 and sold to Jasper.ai in February 2024. Support runs through jasper.ai and the API page says Clipdrop is part of Jasper now.

Which Clipdrop alternative has an API?

For developers, Photoroom lists a REST API and an MCP server, and every paid Photoroom plan carries a wallet of API credits equal to its price. Clipdrop's own API is now the Jasper API, with usage-based cost.

How does ImageQuarry compare with Clipdrop?

Clipdrop is a set of one-step tools for jobs like cleanup, cutouts and upscaling. ImageQuarry is a workspace for creating an image from a description or an upload and then refining it through changes asked for in words, with every version kept.

Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.

Keep the image and change it in words

Start from a description or your own photo, ask for the next change, and go back to any earlier version if you prefer it.
