Question
What is AI upscaling?
AI upscaling enlarges an image and fills in new detail with a model, so it looks sharper than a simple resize. The added detail is a prediction, not recovered information, so faces, text and product labels can change and need checking.
A simple resize spreads the same pixels over a bigger area, which looks soft. An AI upscaler predicts what fine texture would look like at the larger size, such as skin pores, fabric weave or leaf edges, and draws it in.
That makes upscaling useful when an image is the right picture at the wrong size, for example a 1024 pixel image needed for a print. It is less useful when the problem is in the image itself: a misshapen hand or a wrong logo gets larger, not better.
Always compare the upscaled result with the original at full size. Look closely at lettering, faces and anything that must stay accurate, such as a product label, because an upscaler can invent small details there too.
