Question
Can AI images be printed?
Yes. An AI image prints like any other digital image, as long as it has enough pixels for the print size. At about 300 pixels per inch, a 1024 pixel image prints sharply at about 3.4 inches wide; larger prints need a larger image or upscaling.
The arithmetic is simple: divide the image width in pixels by 300 to get the sharp print width in inches. Adobe's Photoshop help suggests 300 pixels per inch for the best print quality unless your printer asks for something else.
Large prints viewed from a distance, such as posters and banners, can use fewer pixels per inch. Ask your printer for their minimum before you enlarge anything.
Two print-specific checks: colors on screen are brighter than ink on paper, so order a proof for anything important; and check text and fine detail at 100 percent zoom, because print shows mistakes that a phone screen hides.
In ImageQuarry, compare your versions, choose one and download it, then check its pixel size against the print size before you send it.
