Question
Can AI edit only part of an image?
Yes. You can mark an area with a mask, or describe the part to change in words, and the model concentrates the edit there. It is not a hard boundary: the rest of the image is usually regenerated too, so check the untouched areas after each edit.
Mask-based editing (often called inpainting) fills only the marked region. Hugging Face's Diffusers documentation describes the mask as white for the area to change and black for the area to keep, and notes that inpainting models are "more likely to change your unmasked area" while blending the edge.
Instruction editing without a mask works by description: "replace the sky", "make the mug blue". Google's Gemini documentation shows prompts that end with "Do not change any other elements of the image" for this reason.
In ImageQuarry you describe the part to change in plain words on the version you selected. The result is a new version, and the earlier one stays, so a partial edit that spilled over is easy to undo.
