Question
Can AI change the aspect ratio of an existing image?
Yes, in two ways: by cropping, which removes part of the image, or by extending it, where AI draws new area beyond the original edges. Extending keeps the whole original but adds content you should check, because it is invented.
Cropping is exact and safe when there is room to lose around the subject. Extending, often called outpainting, is the way to turn a square product shot into a wide banner or a wide photo into a tall Story without cutting the subject. Adobe's Generative Expand, for example, fills an enlarged canvas with new content.
Extended areas are generated, not recovered: a hand at the edge of a photo may get an invented arm, and a wall may get a window that was never there. Look at the new edges closely.
In ImageQuarry, you can start from your own image and ask for the change you want in plain words. Each request makes a new version and the earlier ones stay, so you can compare them and check the result against the size your channel asks for.
