ImageQuarry vs Photoroom: a product photo toolkit or an open image workspace

Photoroom is built for selling products: its homepage calls it "the future-ready product visual solution for e-commerce", with background removal, AI backgrounds, batch editing and an Edit with AI tool where you describe a change such as "add a white studio background". ImageQuarry is a general purpose image workspace: you describe an image or upload one, ask for changes in words, and keep every version as you branch and compare. Choose Photoroom for catalog work at volume, apps on every device and API access. Choose ImageQuarry when the job is wider than product shots and you want each change kept as its own version.

We make ImageQuarry. We compared it with Photoroom using Photoroom's own public pages, checked October 20, 2026, and say where Photoroom does more.

ImageQuarry and Photoroom: the differences that matter

Catalog work at volume

Photoroom bundles batch editing, Brand Kit, Spaces with up to 50 seats and Team Workspaces into its paid plans, and its Max plan adds a Shopify integration. Sellers who edit whole catalogs get tools shaped for exactly that job.

How a change is asked for

Photoroom's Edit with AI takes instructions like "remove the label" or "change the t-shirt color to white" on product photos. In ImageQuarry you select any version of any image and ask for a change such as "Put the bottle on folded fabric. Warmer light." The result arrives as a new version and the earlier ones stay.

Keeping and branching versions

ImageQuarry keeps every version with the prompt, references and conversation behind it, and you can branch from any earlier version to try another direction. Photoroom's pages describe Spaces for creating and sharing designs; version history is not stated.

Devices and developers

Photoroom runs on the web, iOS and Android, sells a Shopify app, and each paid plan includes API and MCP credits worth the plan's price.

Pricing shape

Photoroom offers a free trial and three paid tiers from $12.99 to $99 a month billed monthly, with AI credit allowances, exports up to 2K resolution, and 4K on Ultra (as of October 2026). ImageQuarry has two paid plans, Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on.

About each product

ImageQuarry

ImageQuarry is a conversational AI image workspace. You describe an image or upload one, then ask for specific changes in words, such as new lighting, a different background or an added object. Each change makes a new version and earlier versions are kept, so you can make variations, branch from any version, add reference images and organize the work in projects and a library. You can choose between four image models: Nano Banana 2.1 (the default), Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on. Every plan is paid. ImageQuarry has not published output specifications or rights terms yet, and it is not a headshot or background removal tool.

Photoroom

Photoroom describes itself as "the future-ready product visual solution for e-commerce". Its core tools, including the Background Remover, Retouch, AI Shadows, AI Expand and the Image Enhancer, cost no credits on paid plans, while credit tools cover AI Backgrounds, AI Fashion Models, a Video Generator and Edit with AI, where you describe a change to a product photo. It runs on the web, iOS and Android, offers a Shopify app, a REST API and an MCP server, and organizes work in Spaces with Brand Kit and Team Workspaces. Photoroom says more than 1M businesses use it.

Which one fits your work

Choose ImageQuarry when

  • You make many kinds of images, not only product shots
  • You want to ask for each change in words and keep every version
  • You want to branch from an earlier version and compare directions
  • You want to choose between four image models for the same request

Choose Photoroom when

  • You sell online and need background removal, shadows and resizing at catalog scale
  • You want native iOS and Android apps or a Shopify app
  • You need API or MCP access for automated product images
  • You want published export limits, up to 4K on Ultra

How to try both on the same image

  1. Pick one product photo you already use, such as a bottle or a shirt on a plain background.
  2. In Photoroom, run Edit with AI with one instruction, for example adding a white studio background.
  3. Upload the same photo to ImageQuarry, ask for the same change in words, then ask for a second change on the new version.
  4. Compare the results side by side, and read each product's own terms before you publish anything.

Questions about ImageQuarry vs Photoroom

Is Photoroom an AI image generator or a product photo editor?

Mostly a product photo editor for e-commerce. It includes an Image Generator where you "describe what you need", but its plans and tools center on product visuals, backgrounds and exports for selling online (photoroom.com, October 2026).

Can both edit a photo from a written instruction?

Yes. Photoroom's Edit with AI accepts instructions such as "remove the label". ImageQuarry lets you select any version and ask for a change in words, and each change becomes a new version with the earlier ones kept.

Does Photoroom have a free plan?

Photoroom's pricing page shows "Start free trial" on its paid plans, and a separate permanent plan at no cost is not stated on the pages read for this comparison. Every ImageQuarry plan is paid: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month or Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month.

Which one suits interiors, posters or concept art?

Photoroom's pages focus on product and fashion visuals. ImageQuarry is general purpose, covering product images, advertising, social images, editorial portraits, interiors, posters and concept art.
