ImageQuarry vs Luma: creative agents across media, or a focused image workspace
Luma, the company behind the former Dream Machine, now sells creative agents that plan, generate and refine video, image, audio and text, with its own Uni-1 image model and many third-party models. ImageQuarry concentrates on images: describe or upload, ask for changes in words, and keep every version, branch and reference in projects. Choose Luma when your work mixes video and images and you want one agent across them. Choose ImageQuarry when your work is images and you want a simpler path from a description to a chosen version.

ImageQuarry and Luma: the differences that matter
One agent for many media
Luma's agents "research, generate, and refine across video, image, audio, and text", and its app adds Team Workspaces and EXR export. ImageQuarry has no video, audio or agent features.
Overlapping models
Luma's pricing lists third-party image models including GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana 2.1 and Nano Banana Pro alongside its own Uni-1. ImageQuarry offers four image models by name, with Nano Banana 2.1 as the default, and you switch models when you want a different result for the same request.
Image finishing tools
Luma prices background removal, reframing, an upscaler up to 8K and layer separation per image in credits. Those finishing tools are not part of what ImageQuarry lists.
Versions and branches as the workflow
ImageQuarry makes each change a new version, keeps the earlier ones, and lets you branch from any version to try a second direction. Luma's app describes keeping "full context across every stage of creative work"; image version branching is not described on the pages read.
Plan structure
Luma sells Plus at $30, Pro at $90 and Ultra at $300 a month, or $300, $900 and $3,000 billed yearly, as of October 2026. ImageQuarry has two monthly plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month.

About each product
ImageQuarry
ImageQuarry is a conversational AI image workspace. You describe an image or upload one, then ask for specific changes in words, such as new lighting, a different background or an added object. Each change makes a new version and earlier versions are kept, so you can make variations, branch from any version, add reference images and organize the work in projects and a library. You can choose between four image models: Nano Banana 2.1 (the default), Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on. Every plan is paid. ImageQuarry has not published output specifications or rights terms yet, and it is not a headshot or background removal tool.
Luma
Luma (lumalabs.ai) positions itself as "your creative partner": creative agents that plan, generate, iterate and refine across video, image, audio and text. Dream Machine now redirects to the Luma app, and Luma's own information page calls Dream Machine deprecated and says Photon no longer exists as a separate product. Images come from its Uni-1 and Uni-1.1 models or from third-party models it hosts, priced per image in credits, with prompt-based editing and up to 9 reference images. Plans run from Plus at $30 a month to Ultra at $300, with yearly billing and Team and Enterprise tiers priced on request, as of October 2026. There is a web app, an iOS app and an API.
Which one fits your work
Choose ImageQuarry when
- Your deliverables are still images, not clips or soundtracks
- You want a short path: describe, ask for a change, pick a version
- You want branches from earlier versions kept side by side
Choose Luma when
- You produce video, images and audio for the same campaign
- You want image utilities such as upscaling to 8K or layer separation
- You want an iOS app or an API
- You need yearly billing or a team workspace
How to try both on the same image
- Pick one still you need, for example a product on a table in morning light.
- Generate it in Luma with Uni-1 and in ImageQuarry from the same description.
- Ask each for the same written change, such as a cooler color direction, and compare.
- If the still later needs motion, move to Luma's video side; keep refining stills in ImageQuarry.
