Pika (pika.art) alternatives for AI video creators who also make images
Pika is the AI video app at pika.art, a web and iPhone platform that leads with video tools such as Video Studio and Swap Anything and also offers Image Studio and Edit Image for stills. People look elsewhere mainly because the no-cost tier has no monthly credits and no commercial license, and that license only starts with Creator at $35 a month. Kling AI suits video makers who want a cheaper paid plan with commercial use, PixVerse suits people who want a daily allowance and Android, and Luma suits teams that edit stills by prompt. ImageQuarry only makes sense here for the still images you keep reworking.
We make ImageQuarry, one of the alternatives below. Pika and each alternative were compared on video and image tools, editing in words, usage terms, how you start, platforms and price, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 20, 2026.

What is Pika?
Pika calls itself "the AI creative platform you've been waiting for" and groups its tools into AI Video, AI Image and AI Audio, with Video Studio, Product Ad, Swap Anything, Motion Transfer and Extend Video listed first. For stills, Image Studio generates images with a choice of models such as GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana 2.1 and Seedream 5, and takes up to 16 references you @mention in the prompt. Edit Image swaps, removes or restyles parts of an image, and Character Studio keeps a reusable character.
This page covers Pika, the generative video and image app at pika.art, not the small mountain animal or the unrelated Pika software projects that share the name.
Pika pricing

What Pika does well
Many video tools next to image ones
Pika's pricing page lists Video Studio, Product Ad, Swap Anything, Motion Transfer and Extend Video, alongside Image Studio, Edit Image, Character Studio, Product Shot, Color Grade and audio tools.
Up to 16 references in one prompt
Image Studio lets you attach up to 16 reference images for subject, setting, style or product and @mention each one in the prompt to say how it should be used.
A pick of outside image models
The pricing page names GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana 2.1, Seedream 5, Grok Imagine and Seedream 4, and Image Studio invites you to change models if you have a favorite. Every plan card lists all models.
No watermark on any tier
Pika's plan cards show no watermark on every plan, including the no-cost tier, and top-up packs can be bought on any plan without starting a subscription.
Several ways in beyond the web
Pika links an iPhone app, Pika MCP, Pika for ChatGPT and the Pika API Club, a membership that gives access to generative media models through one API.
Where Pika falls short
The no-cost tier includes no credits
Pika's Free plan has 0 monthly credits, so any generation there needs a top-up pack, and it does not include a commercial license.
Commercial use starts at $35 a month
Starter at $10 a month has no commercial license; the license begins with Creator at $35 a month billed monthly.
iPhone only, and video only on mobile
The App Store listing for Pika - AI Video says "Only for iPhone" and describes video features alone, with no image editing. No Android app was found.
Unused credits and refunds
Plan credits do not roll over, payments are non-refundable, and top-up credits cannot be spent through the API or the iPhone app.
Typed image editing is not described
Edit Image is described as swapping, removing or restyling anything in an image, and the homepage does not say whether you can ask for those changes in words.
Why people look for a Pika alternative
- You want to start without buying anything, and Pika's Free plan comes with 0 monthly credits.
- You sell or publish what you make, and Pika's commercial license starts with Creator at $35 a month, not the $10 Starter plan.
- You work on Android, or want image editing on your phone, and Pika's app is iPhone only and video only.
- You want to describe image changes in words, and Pika does not say whether Edit Image takes typed instructions.
- You use credits unevenly, and Pika's plan credits reset each period without rolling over, with no refunds on cancellation.
The 6 Pika alternatives
Ordered by how many of the reasons above each one answers while still making video, Pika's main job: a cheaper paid plan with commercial use and phone apps first, then a renewing allowance, then typed image edits. ImageQuarry handles only still images, so it is listed last.
1. Kling AI
Best for: Video creators who want commercial use on a low first paid tier and apps on every platform
How it differs from Pika: Kling's Standard plan lists commercial use and watermark removal at $6.99 for the first month and $8.8 a month after, where Pika's license begins with Creator. Its image side spells out typed edits: the AI Photo Editor asks you to explain what should change and what should stay, and IMAGE 3.0 draws on up to 10 reference images.
Price: $6.99 for a first month of Standard, renewing at $8.8 a month (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: The Basic tier has no monthly credits and its output is not for commercial use, and plan prices come from Kling's blog rather than a readable pricing page.
2. PixVerse
Best for: Social video makers who want a daily allowance to start and an Android app
How it differs from Pika: PixVerse's Basic tier gives 60 initial credits and 30 daily credits that reset each day, and its apps are on both the App Store and Google Play. Its GPT Image 2.5 page tells you to name the exact change first and then list locked elements, and an Image Region Editor mini-app sits beside the video tools.
Price: Standard $8 a month billed yearly ($96) (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Its terms say outputs are for non-commercial use unless separately licensed, while another line allows commercial use, and its prices come from a Wayback capture.
3. Runway
Best for: Editors who want video, images and audio in one workspace with Android support
How it differs from Pika: Runway's free plan starts you with 125 one-time credits that do not expire, where Pika's tier starts at zero. It runs on the web, iPhone and Android, and its product page shows changing lighting or removing elements from a take by telling the model what you want.
Price: Standard $15 a month billed monthly (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Standard and Pro credits do not roll over, and Standard allows up to 3 projects.
4. Hailuo AI
Best for: Creators who want MiniMax's H3 video model and many image models across desktop and phone
How it differs from Pika: Hailuo AI, from MiniMax, pairs its H3 video model with image models including GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, Nano Banana Pro and Midjourney V7. Its FAQ says paid users can use watermark-free downloads commercially, and its listed platforms include Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.
Price: $14.99 a month for Standard, shown with a $7.99 limited-time offer (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Its terms say Hailuo may add labels or watermarks that you must not remove, and fees are not refunded if you cancel mid-period.
5. Luma
Best for: Creative professionals who edit stills by prompt and share boards with collaborators
How it differs from Pika: Luma's docs say editing is prompt-based and you describe the change in natural language, with up to 8 references for an edit. Plus at $30 a month includes commercial use, and its board lets you group, compare and share assets with collaborators.
Price: $30 a month for Plus, billed monthly (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: No free plan is listed on its pricing page, and no Android app is mentioned.
6. ImageQuarry
Best for: The stills side of a Pika workflow, when one image needs many rounds of described changes
How it differs from Pika: Pika's Edit Image swaps, removes or restyles parts of a picture, without saying whether you can type the change. In ImageQuarry, every edit is a request in words, such as warmer light or a new backdrop, and each one lands as a new version while the earlier ones stay. References guide the look, and you can branch from any earlier version to try another direction.
Price: Pro at $29 a month, or Starter at $9 (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: ImageQuarry does no video or motion work, so it cannot stand in for Pika's video tools, and every plan is paid.
Who should stay with Pika
- Your output is short video, and you rely on Pika tools such as Swap Anything, Motion Transfer or Extend Video.
- You steer images with many references at once, since Image Studio takes up to 16 and lets you @mention each.
- You already pay for Creator or Fancy, so commercial use is covered, and you reach Pika through MCP or ChatGPT as well as the web.
How to try an alternative alongside Pika
- Download the videos and images you want to keep from your Pika creations before changing plans.
- Collect the reference images you @mention most in Image Studio, and note what each one was for (subject, setting, style or product).
- If you plan to cancel, do it from the Subscription page near the end of a billing period: Pika keeps the plan active until then and gives no refund for the rest of it.
- Spend plan credits first, since they do not roll over; top-up credits last 365 days from purchase.
- Run two or three of your usual briefs in the new tool, one video and one still, and compare the results before moving more work.
Does not carry over: Characters built in Character Studio, Pika's @mention references and any remaining Pika credits stay with Pika; only downloaded files move.
Pika alternatives: questions
Is there a free alternative to Pika?
PixVerse's Basic tier gives 30 daily credits after 60 initial ones, and Runway's free plan starts with 125 one-time credits. Kling's Basic tier costs nothing but includes no monthly credits, much like Pika's own Free plan with 0 credits. Every ImageQuarry plan is paid.
What is the cheapest Pika alternative with commercial use?
Kling Standard lists commercial use at $6.99 for the first month and $8.8 a month after that, as of October 2026. On Pika, commercial use starts with Creator at $35 a month billed monthly, since Starter at $10 does not include it.
Which Pika alternatives have an Android app?
Kling AI, PixVerse, Runway and Hailuo AI each list Android. Pika's own app is for iPhone only, and no Android app was found.
Which alternative edits images when you describe the change?
Kling's AI Photo Editor and Luma's editing both work from typed instructions, and PixVerse's GPT Image 2.5 page tells you to name the change and the locked elements. Pika does not say whether Edit Image takes text. In ImageQuarry, you select a version, ask for a change in words, and get a new version.
Does Pika have an API?
Pika runs the Pika API Club, a membership that gives access to generative media models through one API, and links Pika MCP. Note that top-up credits bought on pika.art do not apply to the API.
How does ImageQuarry compare with Pika?
Pika is mostly a video app with image tools on the side. ImageQuarry is an image workspace only: you create from a description or an upload, describe each change, and keep every version in projects.
