Kling AI alternatives for AI video and image generation
Kling AI (kling.ai) is a video-first AI studio built on the Kling video models that also generates images with Kling IMAGE 3.0 and re-edits them from natural-language instructions. People look elsewhere because the Basic tier includes no monthly credits and its output is not for commercial use, and because paid tiers renew above their first-month price, Standard going from $6.99 to $8.8. PixVerse fits people who want daily free credits, Runway fits video makers who want phone apps and an API on one plan, and Luma fits teams who refine video and stills with an agent. ImageQuarry makes still images only, so it fits people whose Kling work is mostly image edits they want kept as versions.
We make ImageQuarry, one of the alternatives below. Kling AI and each alternative were compared on how you start, video tools, editing stills in words, references, platforms and price, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 20, 2026.

What is Kling AI?
Kling AI's homepage, titled "Kling AI: Next-Gen AI Video & Image Generator", leads with the Kling 4.0 video model, Motion Control and a node-based Canvas with an agent. For stills, Kling IMAGE 3.0 "supports natural-language image creation, reference images, style transfer" and local re-editing from written instructions, while IMAGE 3.0 Omni focuses on "cinematic narrative stills". Kling lists web, iOS, Android, macOS and Windows, and runs a separate API Platform with its own pricing.
Kling AI is a video studio first, and its image tools sit next to the video models rather than at the center of the product.

What Kling AI does well
Video and stills in one studio
Kling pairs its Kling 4.0 video model and Motion Control with two image models: IMAGE 3.0 for natural-language creation and style transfer, and IMAGE 3.0 Omni for cinematic narrative stills and image series.
Re-edit a still by describing it
Kling's AI Photo Editor asks you to "Enter a clear text prompt, explaining what should change and what should stay the same", and can replace a person, remove an object or swap the background from a description.
Up to 10 reference images
IMAGE 3.0 extracts features from up to 10 reference images, and Omni can turn one or several images into a series.
Every major platform, plus team spaces
Kling's homepage lists web, iOS, Android, macOS and Windows, and developers get a separate API Platform at kling.ai/dev. On Team Memberships, the owner and administrators can recharge and allocate credits inside a shared Team Space.
A low first month, and failed jobs refunded
Standard is $6.99 for the first month with 660 credits, and paid tiers list brand watermark removal, commercial use, image upscaling and fast-track generation. Kling's credit policy says credits for a generation that fails are refunded.
Where Kling AI falls short
The free tier has no credits
Basic is described as "$0; free forever" with "No monthly Credits", and its generated content is not for commercial use.
Prices rise after month one
The first-subscription discount applies once: Standard renews at $8.8 and Pro at $32.56 a month after first months of $6.99 and $25.99.
Membership credits last a month
Kling's credit policy says membership credits are "Valid for 1 month", that credits cannot be transferred or gifted between accounts, and that refunds or exchanges for cash are not supported. Watermark removal, video extension and image upscaling are premium-only functions.
No mask or region tool named
Image edits are driven by text; Kling's pages name no mask or region tool and no outpainting, with reframing the closest option.
4K is tied to Omni
Direct 2K and 4K output is attributed to IMAGE 3.0 Omni only on Kling's comparison page.
Why people look for a Kling AI alternative
- You want to start with credits you can actually spend, and Kling's Basic tier includes no monthly credits.
- You want to use free-tier output in client or commercial work, which Kling's Basic tier does not allow.
- You want a monthly price that stays the same, while Kling's first-month discount applies once and renewals cost more.
- You want membership credits that outlast the month or can move to another account, and Kling says membership credits are valid for 1 month and cannot be transferred.
- You want to brush over one area of a still and change only that, and Kling names no mask or region tool.
The 6 Kling AI alternatives
Ordered by how many of the reasons above each one answers while still doing Kling's main job, video: a usable free start first, then steady pricing and broad platforms, then region editing. ImageQuarry answers the still-image editing reasons but makes no video, so it comes last.
1. PixVerse
Best for: Creators who want a free tier with daily credits and a conversational video Agent
How it differs from Kling AI: According to a Wayback capture of its pricing page, PixVerse's free Basic tier starts with 60 credits and adds 30 each day, where Kling's Basic tier carries none. It offers third party image models such as GPT Image 2.5 and Nano Banana 2.1, an Image Region Editor, and an Agent where you describe what should change in a video.
Price: Free Basic tier; Standard $8 a month billed yearly ($96) (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Its terms contain two different statements about commercial use of outputs, and watermark-free downloads are listed only for paid plans.
2. Runway
Best for: Video makers who want phone apps, an API and Adobe plugins around one plan
How it differs from Kling AI: Runway gives 125 one-time credits that do not expire, then Standard at $15 a month with no watermarks and 4K upscaling. It runs on the web, iPhone and Android, sells an API through Runway Dev, and has plugins for Premiere Pro and After Effects.
Price: Free plan (125 one-time credits); Standard $15 a month (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Standard and Pro monthly credits do not roll over, and projects are capped at 3, 5 or 10 depending on the plan.
3. Hailuo AI
Best for: People who want MiniMax's H3 video model next to many third party image models
How it differs from Kling AI: Hailuo AI, from MiniMax, pairs its H3 video model with an image generator that offers GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana Pro, Seedream and Midjourney models alongside MiniMax's own Image-01. Its listed platforms are web, Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.
Price: Standard $14.99 a month (limited-time offer $7.99) (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: The plan FAQ ties the top tiers to older models, the terms say you must not remove labels or watermarks it adds, and early cancellation is not refunded.
4. Luma
Best for: Creative teams who want an agent that plans and refines video and images inside projects
How it differs from Kling AI: Luma's agents plan, generate and refine across video, image, audio and text, keeping context across each stage of a project. Its Uni-1 image model edits from a natural-language description with up to 8 reference images, and the pricing page also lists third party models such as Nano Banana 2.1 and Seedream.
Price: Plus $30 a month (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: The entry plan is $30 a month and the pricing page lists no free plan, although Luma's assistant info page mentions trial credits; Android is not mentioned.
5. Higgsfield
Best for: Social video creators who want many models, consistent characters and brush-based inpainting
How it differs from Kling AI: Higgsfield hosts third party models such as Kling O1, Nano Banana Pro and Seedream in one suite, with Soul ID to keep a character consistent and Nano Banana Pro Inpaint to brush over an area and change it, the region tool Kling does not name. It also has an API, MCP access and a ChatGPT plugin.
Price: Starter $15 a month (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Free use includes no credits and carries a watermark, there is no trial, and its help center says it may use content to train its models.
6. ImageQuarry
Best for: People whose Kling work is mostly still images refined through many rounds of edits
How it differs from Kling AI: Kling IMAGE 3.0 re-edits a still from natural-language instructions. ImageQuarry is built around that step: select a version, describe the change, and the new version joins the earlier ones, any of which you can branch from. You can add references and pick one of four models, with Nano Banana 2.1 selected by default.
Price: Starter at $9 or Pro at $29, each per month (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: ImageQuarry makes still images only, so video, Motion Control and audio stay in Kling, and every plan is paid.
Who should stay with Kling AI
- You make video first and want Kling 4.0 and Motion Control in the same account as your stills.
- You want a cheap first month to try paid features, since Standard starts at $6.99 for 660 credits.
- You need one account that works across web, iOS, Android, macOS and Windows.
How to try an alternative alongside Kling AI
- Check when your Kling membership credits renew, since they are valid for one month while purchased credits last two years.
- If you set up Credit Auto-Recharge, which buys Kling credits when your balance falls to a threshold you chose, switch it off before you start testing elsewhere.
- Download finished videos and images while you are on a paid tier, because watermark removal is a premium-only function in Kling.
- Run two or three of your usual briefs in the alternative's free tier or lowest plan, including one image to video job and one still you would normally re-edit in Kling.
- Compare renewal prices rather than first-month offers before you commit, since several of these tools also show introductory prices.
Does not carry over: Kling Canvas graphs, Motion Control setups and unused Kling credits stay in Kling.
Kling AI alternatives: questions
Is there a free alternative to Kling AI?
A Wayback capture of PixVerse's pricing page shows a free tier with 60 starting credits and 30 more each day, and Runway gives 125 one-time credits. Higgsfield lets you generate without paying on a small set of models, with no credits and a watermark. Kling's own Basic tier costs nothing but includes no monthly credits. Every ImageQuarry plan is paid.
Which Kling AI alternative is cheapest?
On monthly prices as of October 2026, Kling Standard renews at $8.8 after a $6.99 first month. Runway Standard and Higgsfield Starter are each $15 a month, and Hailuo AI Standard is $14.99 with a limited-time $7.99 offer. PixVerse Standard is $8 a month when billed yearly. Kling's paid service terms also name a Yearly Subscription, though no yearly amount appears on its pages read.
Which Kling alternative has an API?
Runway sells an API through Runway Dev, Luma offers Uni-1.1 and Ray 3.2 APIs, Higgsfield lists an API and MCP access, and PixVerse has an API Platform and a CLI. Kling itself runs a separate API Platform at kling.ai/dev.
What can I use instead of Kling for image to video?
PixVerse lists Text and Image to Video and a Character tool for consistent characters, Hailuo AI's H3 model offers Omni Reference, and Higgsfield's Cinema Studio lets you upload an image to set the creative direction. Kling names Motion Control on its homepage for the same kind of work.
Can I edit images with words outside Kling?
Luma's Uni-1 edits from a natural-language description, PixVerse's GPT Image 2.5 page tells you to name the exact change and then the elements to lock, and Higgsfield changes an area you brush over. In ImageQuarry each change you describe produces a new version, and you can branch from any earlier one.
How does ImageQuarry compare with Kling AI?
Kling is a video studio that also makes and edits images. ImageQuarry works on still images only, keeping each change as a version inside your projects, on monthly plans from $9.
