PicLumen alternatives for usage terms, lasting credits and phone apps

PicLumen is a web AI creative studio for images, video and audio that runs models such as GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana 2, Seedream 5.0 Pro and FLUX, with image to image editing from a text prompt and an infinite node canvas. People look elsewhere because its Basic tier carries no commercial use rights, subscription Lumens reset each month, and its homepage links a video effects app rather than a PicLumen app. Mage suits people who want commercial use from the Free plan, NightCafe those who want credits that keep, and Leonardo.Ai and SeaArt those who want phone apps. ImageQuarry suits people who want every edit kept as a version.

We make ImageQuarry, one of the alternatives below. PicLumen and each alternative were compared on usage terms by plan, how long usage lasts, platforms, editing in words, keeping versions and price, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 20, 2026.

What is PicLumen?

PicLumen's site title calls it "AI Image & Video Generators for Creators and Brands", with sections for Studio, Canvas, Tools, Effects, Models and a Community feed. Its image to image converter lets you "reshape any photo simply by describing the change in words", keeping the composition while changing background, style, objects or lighting. A menu of tools adds inpainting, background removal, upscaling, image extending and clothes or hairstyle changes, and the Canvas builds image and video flows on an infinite board.

PicLumen is a studio that runs models from other labs, such as GPT Image, Nano Banana, Seedream and FLUX, and the iOS app its homepage links is Naivideo, a separate video effects app.

What PicLumen does well

Typed edits that keep the composition

PicLumen says you upload an image, describe the change, and get a new version that keeps the original composition while applying a new background, a different style, added or removed elements or adjusted lighting.

Many current image and video models

The menu lists Grok Imagine Image 2.0, GPT Image 2.5, Qwen Image 3.0, Nano Banana 2, Seedream 5.0 Pro and FLUX for images, and Seedance 2.5, Wan 3.0, Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1 for video.

A node canvas for multi-step work

The Canvas builds image and video flows on an infinite board, with 10 to 100 canvas projects and 50 to 500 nodes per canvas depending on the plan.

A low entry price

Lite costs $7.59 a month on monthly billing for 750 Lumens, about 750 images, with watermark-free creation.

You own what your prompts make

PicLumen says you own the rights to images and videos generated from your own prompts, subject to your plan's commercial license terms.

Where PicLumen falls short

No commercial rights on Basic

The no-cost Basic tier runs in Normal Mode and states "No commercial use rights".

Full licensing starts at $24.99

Lite includes only limited commercial licensing; full commercial licensing begins with Standard at $24.99 a month on monthly billing.

Lumens reset every month

Subscription Lumens reset monthly and do not roll over; only annual Elite plans keep 30% of unused Lumens through the Lumen Vault.

No refunds on subscriptions

The pricing page states that subscriptions are not refundable.

No PicLumen phone app

Apart from the web, the homepage links Naivideo, an iOS video effects app, rather than a PicLumen-branded mobile app.

Why people look for a PicLumen alternative

  • You want to use images commercially without paying first, and PicLumen's Basic tier has no commercial use rights.
  • You make images unevenly from month to month, and subscription Lumens reset without rolling over below annual Elite.
  • You want to create from a phone app, and PicLumen's homepage links only a separate video effects app.
  • You need full commercial licensing for less than PicLumen Standard's $24.99 a month.

The 5 PicLumen alternatives

Ordered by the reasons above, taken in order: commercial use before paying, usage that carries over, then phone apps. ImageQuarry is last because PicLumen already edits from typed changes; it is the better fit only when keeping and branching versions is your main reason.

1. Mage

Best for: People who want to use what they make commercially from the Free plan onward

How it differs from PicLumen: Mage's docs say you own what you create and may use it commercially on every plan, Free included, where PicLumen's Basic tier has no commercial use rights. Creations are private unless you post them, Mango 3 edits an image from exact instructions, and Basic at $10 a month includes unlimited generations on base models.

Price: $10 a month for Basic; Free plan with 300 Gems (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: Output from GPT Image 2, Grok and Nano Banana 2 also falls under those labs' terms, Gems expire, and no phone app is listed.

2. NightCafe

Best for: People who top up now and then and want credits to carry forward

How it differs from PicLumen: NightCafe says unused Fast Credits roll over month to month and never expire, unlike PicLumen's monthly Lumen reset. Its help article assigns the rights in your creations to you provided you used no copyrighted input images, and its web and mobile generators sync across devices. Editing with prompts and 50+ PRO models such as Nano Banana Pro and Seedream are included.

Price: AI Beginner, $7.49 a month excluding tax (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: Its pages do not say whether creations are public by default, and quarterly and annual dollar prices are not shown.

3. Leonardo.Ai

Best for: Creators who want real iOS and Android apps and a free tier with a commercial licence

How it differs from PicLumen: Leonardo.Ai has its own iOS and Android apps and a pay as you go API. On its free tier it grants a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use your creations commercially, and paid subscribers keep full ownership. Its models include FLUX.2 Pro, GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana Pro and Seedream 5.0 Pro.

Price: Free plan of 150 fast tokens a day; Essential $12 a month (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: Free creations are public, and Leonardo.Ai holds rights to use, reproduce and distribute them.

4. SeaArt

Best for: People who want a similar model catalog with phone apps and a daily allowance

How it differs from PicLumen: SeaArt runs many of the same models, including GPT Image 2.5, Nano Banana 2.1, Seedream 5.0 Pro, Flux and Qwen Image, and lets you describe the part you want to modify in plain words. It takes up to 6 reference images for editing or merging, links iOS and Android apps from its homepage, and its FAQ says results can be used commercially for marketing and advertising.

Price: Free plan of 130 Stamina a day; paid prices not shown in page text (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: Paid plan amounts were not in the pricing page text, and private generation is a plan privilege rather than the default.

5. ImageQuarry

Best for: People who edit one image over many rounds and want to branch back to earlier rounds

How it differs from PicLumen: PicLumen's image to image tool generates a new version from a written change. ImageQuarry keeps the whole run: each change is saved as a version with the prompt and references behind it, earlier versions stay, and you can branch from any of them, or compare and download the one you choose.

Price: Starter $9 per month, Pro $29 per month (as of 2026-10)

Limitation: Every plan is paid, it has no video, background remover or product templates, and ImageQuarry has not published Terms yet.

Who should stay with PicLumen

  • You want many image and video models plus a node canvas under one subscription.
  • Lite's $7.59 a month for about 750 images covers your volume and limited commercial licensing is enough.
  • You use tools such as AI Clothes Changer, Hairstyle Changer, Image Extender and Object Remover alongside generation.
  • You are on annual Elite and count on the Lumen Vault keeping 30% of unused Lumens.

How to try an alternative alongside PicLumen

  1. Spend this month's subscription Lumens first, since they reset monthly and do not carry over below annual Elite.
  2. Save the images you want to keep editing before you change plans.
  3. Remember that PicLumen subscriptions are not refundable, so time any cancellation for the end of a billing period.
  4. Repeat two of your image to image edits in the alternative, using the same photo and the same wording.
  5. If you sell what you make, read the new tool's plan-level usage terms, since PicLumen's own range from none on Basic to business-level on Elite.

Does not carry over: Canvas projects and their node setups, plus any Lumen packs you bought, stay with PicLumen.

PicLumen alternatives: questions

Can I use PicLumen's free plan commercially?

No. PicLumen's pricing page says Basic has no commercial use rights; Lite has limited commercial licensing and Standard, at $24.99 a month billed monthly, full commercial licensing. Mage allows commercial use on every plan including Free, and Leonardo.Ai grants free-tier users a royalty-free licence for commercial use.

Do PicLumen Lumens roll over?

Subscription Lumens reset monthly and do not roll over, except that annual Elite plans keep 30% of unused Lumens in the Lumen Vault, and purchased packs expire in 1 year. NightCafe's Fast Credits roll over and never expire.

Is there a PicLumen app?

The homepage links an iOS app called Naivideo, a video effects app, not a PicLumen-branded app. Leonardo.Ai and SeaArt both have iOS and Android apps, and NightCafe has mobile generators.

What is a cheaper alternative to PicLumen?

PicLumen Lite is $7.59 a month on monthly billing. NightCafe's AI Beginner is $7.49 a month and Mage Basic is $10. Each counts usage in its own units, so compare what you can make, not credit numbers.

How does ImageQuarry compare with PicLumen?

Both let you edit an image by describing the change. PicLumen adds video, audio, a node canvas and many single-purpose tools, while ImageQuarry sticks to images and keeps each change as a version, so you can go back, branch from an earlier one and compare before you download.

Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.
