IMAGE STYLES
Create vaporwave art with pastel grids, statues and old-web nostalgia
Vaporwave grew out of an early 2010s internet music scene and became a visual style: pastel pink, lavender and teal, chequered floors and wireframe grids, classical marble busts, palm trees, sunsets, old computer windows and low-quality 1990s graphics used on purpose. It is ironic, dreamy and a little melancholy. In ImageQuarry you describe the scene with those ingredients, then ask for specific changes on the version you like, such as more glitch or a different statue, and each change is kept as a new version.
Combine a classical object, a pastel gradient and one piece of retro tech; keep it a bit strange.

How to create a vaporwave image
- 01
Combine the signature elements
Mix three things: a classical object, a retro-tech element and the pastel palette. "A marble bust of a Greek statue with sunglasses on a pink and teal grid floor, palm trees, an old computer window with an error message, sunset gradient".
- 02
Choose the dreamiest version
Vaporwave is about mood more than precision. Pick the version that feels like a half-remembered mall at dusk.
- 03
Adjust nostalgia and noise
Ask for "add VHS scan lines", "make the palette more lavender", or "replace the computer window with a floppy disk". Each request builds on the selected version.
- 04
Download and layer text yourself
Vaporwave loves wide-spaced or Japanese-style lettering; add your own text after download so it says exactly what you want.
Vaporwave requests to start from
Example requests; each result is a version you review.
Statue and grid
The classic combination.
Empty mall
Liminal shopping spaces are a recurring theme.
Retro desktop
Old interface windows as decoration.
Album art
Vaporwave began as music.
Glitch portrait
Distortion and scan lines add nostalgia.
What defines vaporwave
Pastel palette
Pink, lavender, teal and mint, often in soft gradients, dominate.
Classical meets digital
Greek and Roman statues beside early computer graphics is the central irony.
Deliberate low quality
VHS noise, pixelated textures and dated interfaces are used on purpose.
Liminal spaces
Empty malls, pools and offices evoke nostalgia for places that feel half real.
Variations for a series
Generate variations of an image to explore directions, such as several statues on the same set.
Back to any version
Branch from any earlier version, not only the latest one, when a direction gets too noisy.
Vaporwave ingredients and request wording
| Ingredient | Mood it adds | Request wording |
|---|---|---|
| Marble bust | Classical irony | "A white marble Greek bust in profile" |
| Grid floor | 1980s computer graphics | "A neon wireframe grid stretching to the horizon" |
| Palm trees and sunsets | Tropical escapism | "Silhouetted palms against a pink sunset" |
| Old UI windows | Early web nostalgia | "Floating retro computer windows with error icons" |
| VHS artifacts | Analog decay | "VHS scan lines and slight color bleed" |
| Dolphins and water | Dreamy surrealism | "A dolphin leaping over a glassy pastel sea" |
What is vaporwave?
Vaporwave is a microgenre of electronic music and an internet art movement from the early 2010s. Visually it remixes 1980s and 1990s consumer culture, early computing and classical art into dreamy, ironic, pastel compositions.
Synthwave shares the grid and sunset but plays it straight with neon and chrome; cyberpunk is dark and gritty. Vaporwave is pastel, ironic and nostalgic.
Vaporwave style questions
Can ImageQuarry create vaporwave art?
Yes. Describe the scene with vaporwave elements and ImageQuarry generates it. Then refine the version you like in words.
How do I make it feel more nostalgic?
Ask for VHS scan lines, a softer pastel gradient or old interface windows, one at a time, and compare the versions.
Can I vaporwave my own photo?
Start from the uploaded photo and describe the vaporwave changes you want; say which parts to keep and review the result.
Can I add a reference image for colors?
Yes, add it as a reference. For vaporwave art, references guide the result; review each version to see how closely it follows them.
Will Japanese text come out right?
Do not rely on generated lettering. Leave space and add the text yourself after download.
Where do my versions go?
They live in the workspace with the prompts and conversation that produced them.
Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.
Drift into pastel nostalgia
Describe your statue, grid and sunset, then tune the nostalgia one request at a time.
