Question

Is it safe to upload photos to an AI image tool?

It depends on the tool's policy. Check training use, retention, human review and deletion before you upload, and avoid anything sensitive. The provider's privacy policy answers each of these.

Policies differ a lot. Google says that with Keep Activity on, a subset of chats is reviewed by human reviewers, and reviewed chats are kept for up to three years. OpenAI lets ChatGPT users turn off "Improve the model for everyone" so new conversations are not used for training. Adobe says it has never trained Firefly on customer content.

Reduce what you share. Crop out faces, documents, screens and locations you do not need, and remove metadata such as GPS location before uploading.

For photos of other people, get their permission first: see Should I upload photos of other people to an AI tool?.
