Question
Does the model matter for image editing?
Yes, partly. Each model reads an edit in its own way, but the instruction matters as much as the model, so a clear request that says what to change and what to keep helps on any of them.
OpenAI's prompting guide advises saying "change only X" and listing the details to preserve, such as identity, geometry, layout, lighting or labels. A vague instruction can produce a broad change on any model.
Each model was trained differently and has its own defaults, so two models can read the same edit in different ways. The practical test is your own request: run it, look at what changed, and compare.
ImageQuarry works with four models, with Nano Banana 2.1 as the default, and you can choose a different model when you want a different result for the same request.
