Turn a bare patio into an outdoor room you will use

Most patios are a slab of paving with a table pushed to one side. What makes people actually sit outside is less obvious: shade at the right time of day, a bit of screening from neighbors, plants at seat height, and light for the evening. In ImageQuarry you upload a photo of your patio or describe the space, then ask for those changes one at a time, such as a pergola, a lounge corner or string lights, and compare each version on your own garden.

Outdoor concepts for layout, materials and mood. Drainage, levels and structures are for a landscaper.

How to plan a patio with ImageQuarry

  1. 01

    Photograph it from the house

Stand at the back door and take a wide photo, since that is how you will see the patio most. Include the boundary and anything you want to keep, like a tree or a wall.

  2. 02

Decide how it will be used

Ask for a dining setup in one version and a lounge area in another. Use comes before materials.

  3. 03

    Add shade, screening and planting

Ask for an umbrella, a sail or a pergola, then planters or a trellis along the boundary, one change at a time.

  4. 04

    Light it for the evening

Ask for an evening version with string lights or low path lights, and compare day and night versions side by side.

Patio requests to start from

A lounge corner

A low sofa and a fire bowl turn a corner into the most used spot in the garden.

New paving

Large pale slabs make a small patio feel bigger; brick or setts feel warmer.

Screen the neighbors

Slatted screens or tall planters give a sense of enclosure without a solid wall.

Shade for midday

A shade sail or umbrella decides whether a south-facing patio is usable in summer.

Evening light

String lights and candles make a patio inviting after dark.

Soften with planting

Pots and raised beds at the edge bring green up to seat height.

What makes a patio inviting

Sun and shade decide the hours

Notice when the patio gets sun and when it is shaded. A dining table where afternoon sun is harsh will not get used without shade.

Enclosure feels comfortable

People relax more with something behind them: a wall, a hedge, a screen. Open patios in the middle of a lawn often stay empty.

Materials should suit the house

Paving that relates to the brick, stone or wood of the house looks settled. Ask for a material that picks up a color from the building.

Plan for weather

Outdoor fabrics, storage for cushions and a surface that drains well matter as much as the look.

Start from your garden photo

Upload the photo and describe how to change it; every change is a new version and the earlier ones stay available.

Keep the tree, change the rest

Say in the request what should stay, like an existing tree or wall. Then check the new version to see how closely it followed that.

What is AI patio design?

AI patio design is using an image model to picture an outdoor seating or dining area, from a description or a photo of your garden, with changes such as paving, furniture, shade and lighting asked for in plain words. ImageQuarry keeps each change as a version.

It is not a landscape construction plan. Levels, drainage and foundations for structures are for a landscaper or builder.

Patio questions

Can I redesign my patio from a phone photo?

Yes. Upload the photo, select it and describe the change. ImageQuarry makes a new version and keeps the original in the workspace.

Can I see it in the evening?

Ask for an evening version with your lighting idea. It is a new version you can compare directly with the daytime one.

Can I compare two layouts?

Yes. Branch from the original photo for each layout, such as dining or lounge, so the versions share the same garden.

Can I copy the feel of a terrace from a trip?

Attach a holiday photo as a reference. References guide the result, so look at each version to see how closely it follows the feel you added.

Will it show plants that suit my climate?

Not by itself. The planting in a concept is decorative; check plants with a local nursery before buying.

What plans are there for a garden project?

There are two paid monthly plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, and Pro with more usage each month.

Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.

Make the patio the place people gather

Upload a photo of the space, add seating, shade, planting and light in words, and compare every version.
