Plan a backyard with room for everything you want to do outside

A backyard has to fit several lives at once: children who need open lawn, adults who want somewhere to eat, a gardener who wants beds, and maybe a dog. The hard part is seeing how those zones share one space. In ImageQuarry you upload a photo of your backyard, often from an upstairs window, and ask for the zones in words: a lawn in the middle, a dining area by the house, a vegetable bed at the back. Every idea becomes its own version to compare.

A concept for zoning and look. Levels, drainage, fencing rules and planting choices need local advice.

How to plan a backyard with ImageQuarry

  1. 01

Photograph from above if you can

An upstairs window shows the whole plot and its shape. A ground-level photo from the back door shows what you will see most; use both if you can.

  2. 02

    Divide it into zones

Ask for the main zones first: lawn, dining, play, growing. Change their positions in separate versions.

  3. 03

    Link the zones with paths

Ask for a path from the house to the back of the garden; paths decide how people actually move through a yard.

  4. 04

    Compare plans

Compare the versions side by side, branch from the original for very different ideas, and download the plan you prefer.

Backyard requests to start from

A family layout

Open lawn in the middle with activities around the edge keeps a backyard usable for play.

A curving path

A path that bends out of sight makes a small garden feel larger.

Vegetable beds

Raised beds in a sunny spot are the usual start for growing food.

A low-maintenance yard

Gravel, paving and shrubs reduce mowing and weeding.

A dog-friendly garden

Durable surfaces and a clear run along the fence suit dogs.

Screening at the back

Trees or a hedge at the back boundary hide neighboring windows.

What a well-planned backyard has

Zones before features

Deciding where eating, playing and growing happen comes before choosing furniture or plants. Most failed yards are features dropped into the wrong place.

Paths follow desire lines

People take the shortest route across a lawn. Put the path where feet already wear the grass.

Sun dictates the beds

Vegetables and most flowers need a sunny spot. Notice which part of the yard gets sun for most of the day.

Maintenance is a design choice

Lawns, borders and hedges all need time. A design that matches the time you have will look better in a year than an ambitious one.

Upload, describe, compare

Start from a photo of the yard and ask for the changes in words; each change is a new version and the earlier ones are preserved.

Several directions at once

Generate variations of a layout to see different arrangements, then follow the most promising.

What is AI backyard design?

AI backyard design is picturing a garden or yard, from a description or a photo of your space, with zones, paths, planting and features asked for in plain words through an image model. ImageQuarry keeps every idea as a version so you can compare layouts.

It is not a landscape plan with levels or drainage, and the planting shown is decorative. Check plants, boundaries and local rules before building.

Backyard questions

Can I redesign my backyard from a photo?

Yes. Upload the photo and describe the change, such as moving the patio or adding beds. You get a new version and the original stays.

What is the best photo to use?

A photo from an upstairs window shows the whole plot. Add a ground-level photo from the back door for the view you will see every day.

Can I keep the shed and the big tree?

Yes, name them in the request as things to keep. Requests can say what to keep as well as what to change; check the result against the original.

Can I explore a few completely different plans?

Branch from the original photo for each plan so each one starts from the same garden.

Will it suggest plants for my soil?

No. Planting in a concept is a visual idea. Ask a local nursery or garden center about plants for your soil and climate.

Is a monthly plan needed for one garden project?

ImageQuarry is a paid monthly subscription; Starter is $9 per month and Pro includes more monthly usage.
