Narrow down paint colors on your own rooms

Choosing paint goes wrong in a predictable way: a color looks right on a small chip and wrong across four walls. The room's light, the floor and the furniture all change it. ImageQuarry lets you upload a photo of the room and ask for a color in plain words, such as a warm greige, a deep teal or a soft pink, then compare each color as its own version on the same room. It is a quick way to go from twenty chips to three samples worth painting.

A way to shortlist colors. Confirm with real samples on the wall, in your own light.

How to choose paint colors with ImageQuarry

  1. 01

Photograph the room in its usual light

Take the photo at the time of day you use the room most, with the walls clear. Light is the biggest influence on how paint looks.

  2. 02

    Describe the color precisely

Words like warm, cool, muted, earthy and deep help. Name what the color should sit next to: the oak floor, the grey sofa.

  3. 03

    One color per version

Ask for each color as its own version so the comparisons are clean.

  4. 04

    Shortlist and sample

Compare the versions, pick two or three, and buy samples for those only.

Paint color requests to start from

Warm neutral

Greige and warm whites are the most requested wall colors.

Color drenching

Painting walls, trim and ceiling one color is a strong current look.

Accent wall

One strong wall adds depth without overwhelming.

Two-tone walls

A darker lower half grounds a room.

Painted ceiling

A colored ceiling makes a tall room cozier.

Trim contrast

Dark trim on light walls gives definition.

What changes how a paint color looks

Direction of light

North-facing rooms make colors look cooler and darker; south-facing rooms warm them up. A color chosen in one room may not suit another.

Undertones

Whites and greys carry undertones of yellow, pink, green or blue that show next to other colors. Comparing versions side by side reveals them.

Finish and sheen

Matte hides imperfections; higher sheens reflect light and make colors look lighter. Mention the finish in the request.

Screens shift color

Monitors and phones show colors differently. A version is a guide to direction and contrast, not a paint code.

Words, versions and a kept original

Describe the color on the selected photo and get a new version; the original and every color tried are kept.

Use a reference for a tone

Attach a photo of a fabric, a tile or a room as a reference. References guide the result; review each version to see how closely it follows them.

How does AI paint color visualization work?

AI paint color visualization means asking an image model to show the walls, trim or ceiling of a photographed room in a different color, described in words. In ImageQuarry each color is a new version, so you can compare several on the same room.

It is not a paint brand's color matcher and does not give paint codes. Use it to shortlist, then test physical samples.

Paint color questions

Can I try a paint color on my living room photo?

Yes. Upload the photo, select it and describe the color. A new version is made and the original stays for comparison.

How do I keep the furniture as it is?

Name the furniture, floor and ceiling as things to keep in the request, then compare to see how closely the new version followed that.

Can I compare five colors?

Yes. Make one version per color and compare them side by side, then download your shortlist.

Why does the preview differ from the real paint?

Light, sheen and your screen all change how color appears. Use versions to narrow down, then paint sample patches on more than one wall.

Can I try colors in several rooms?

Yes. Keep each room in the same project so all your color ideas are in one place.

Can I continue from a color I almost like?

Yes. Select that version and ask for it a little warmer or darker; each request builds on the version you chose.

Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.

Buy samples for three colors, not twenty

Upload a photo of the room, try each color as a version, and keep the shortlist you will test.
