Build a maximalist room layer by layer, and keep the version that sings
Maximalism is the opposite of pared back: saturated color on every wall, patterns layered on patterns, gallery walls from floor to ceiling, books, plants and collections on display. Done well it feels curated and personal rather than cluttered, because colors repeat and a few rules hold it together. In ImageQuarry you can describe a maximalist room or upload yours and build it up one bold request at a time, comparing each version so you can find the point where more is still better.
Add one bold layer per step and compare, so you can see when more stops being better.

How to create a maximalist interior with ImageQuarry
- 01
Start with a color base
Describe the room, or upload yours and ask for one strong wall color first, such as deep teal, oxblood or emerald. A confident base holds the layers together.
- 02
Add pattern in steps
Select the version and add a patterned wallpaper, then a contrasting rug, then printed cushions. Each step is a new version.
- 03
Fill the walls and shelves
Ask for a gallery wall, shelves of books and objects, plants at different heights.
- 04
Edit by comparing
Line up the versions and keep the one that feels rich but still readable, then download it.
Maximalist requests to start from
Requests to try. Each request adds a layer as a new version.
Color drenching
One deep color on walls, trim and ceiling.
Pattern on pattern
Clashing in a controlled way.
Gallery wall
Frames from floor to ceiling.
Velvet and fringe
Rich textiles.
Collections on show
Personal objects on display.
Plants everywhere
Green as a layer.
What makes a maximalist room work
Maximalist rooms look effortless but follow a few rules. These are the ones that separate curated from chaotic.
Repeated colors
Two or three colors repeated across walls, fabrics and objects tie very different patterns together.
Varied scale of pattern
One large pattern, one medium and one small sit better together than three patterns of the same size.
Personal collections
Books, art and objects with a story make the room feel collected rather than bought for show.
Bold surfaces
Wallpaper, painted ceilings, colored trim and patterned floors are all fair game.
One layer at a time
Each request builds on the version you selected, so layers can be added and judged one at a time.
Keep every stage
Every change produces a new version and earlier ones are preserved, so you can step back to the stage before it went too far.

| Shelves | Books and collections | Shelves full of books and ceramics |
| Lighting | Statement fixtures, colored shades | A pleated colored lampshade and a sculptural pendant |
| Plants | Large and many | Large plants in patterned pots |
What is maximalist interior design?
Maximalist interior design is a bold, more is more style that combines saturated color, layered patterns, dense displays of art and objects and statement furniture, held together by repeated colors and a curated mix.
It is not the same as boho, which is relaxed and earthy with natural fibres. Maximalism can be any palette or period and is usually bolder and more graphic.
Maximalist interior questions
Can I turn my plain living room maximalist?
Upload a photo, select it and ask for one bold layer at a time, starting with color. Each request makes a new version and the original stays.
How do I mix patterns without chaos?
Keep two or three shared colors and vary the scale: one large, one medium, one small pattern.
Does maximalism work in small rooms?
Often very well; a dark, rich color can make a small room feel deliberate and cosy. Try a light and a dark version and compare.
Can I go back after adding too much?
Yes. Branch from an earlier version, not only the latest, and take a different direction from there.
Can I use my own wallpaper as a guide?
Add a photo of the wallpaper as a reference. It will guide the result; review each version to check how close the pattern came.
Can I organise several room ideas?
Yes. Keep work in projects and a persistent library and come back to earlier images and their history.
What is the monthly cost?
Starter is $9 per month; every plan is paid.
Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.
