# When should I start over instead of editing again?

Start over when the problem is the idea rather than a detail, such as the wrong subject, layout, viewpoint or style of the whole image. Keep editing when the image is mostly right and one or two things need to change. If several clear edits in a row have not fixed the same problem, a fresh generation is usually quicker.

Edits are good at changing parts of a picture: the light, a color, an object, the background. They are weak at changing its structure, because every edit starts from the existing composition.

Signs that you should start over: you keep asking for the same fix in different words; the image has drifted from what you approved; or the change you want would alter most of the frame anyway.

Starting over does not mean losing work. Carry over what you learned: copy the details that worked into a fuller description, and add the earlier image as a reference if you want to keep its color or texture.

In ImageQuarry a new generation sits in the same project as your earlier versions, so you can compare the fresh attempt with the edited one and keep whichever is better.
