# What aspect ratio should product images use?

1:1 square for most online stores. Shopify says 2048 x 2048 pixels usually displays best for square product images, and Amazon prefers more than 1000 pixels on the longest side so shoppers can zoom. Keep every product image in a listing the same shape.

Square images line up cleanly in product grids and survive the crops that themes and marketplaces apply. Shopify accepts images up to 5000 x 5000 pixels and 20 MB.

Amazon's main-image rules, as posted by Amazon staff on its seller forums, also ask for a pure white background and the product filling about 85 percent of the frame. Lifestyle and secondary images are more flexible.

For ads and social posts, make separate versions in 4:5 or 9:16 rather than stretching the store image.
