# Can you edit a photo by describing the change in words?

Yes. With instruction-based editing you write the change, such as "make the light warmer", and the model applies it to your photo. You do not need to select areas or use editing tools, although precise requests give better results.

Be concrete about the change and about what should stay, for example: "Change the jacket to pleated ivory. Keep the face, hands, crop and background." Then review the result, because a keep request guides the model rather than locking those areas.

Google's guidance for its image models suggests refining with follow-up instructions, such as asking for warmer lighting, rather than rewriting the whole request.

Words work best for changes you can describe. For exact pixel work, such as retouching a single strand of hair or matching a brand color code, a traditional editor is still more precise.

This is how ImageQuarry works: create an image, edit it with words, keep refining. Each change arrives as a new version next to the earlier ones.
