# Can AI change the background of a photo?

Yes. Describe the new background, such as "a plain light gray backdrop", and an image model can replace it while keeping the subject. Ask for the light on the subject to match the new scene, or the result can look pasted in.

Background replacement is a well-established AI edit. Stability AI, for example, offers a dedicated Replace Background and Relight service that swaps the background and adjusts the lighting to match the subject.

Check the edges. Hair, fur, glass and fine fabric are where a replaced background tends to show.

Say what must stay, for example "keep the product, its shadow and the camera angle", and compare the result with the original.

In ImageQuarry you describe the new background in words, and the result is a new version you can compare with the original before you download.
