# ImageQuarry vs Lexica: finding prompts or refining pictures

Lexica began as a search engine for AI images and their prompts, and it now generates with its own Lexica Aperture model on plans from USD 8 a month billed annually, as of October 2026. By default its images show up in public search, and only the Max plan keeps them private. Its pages describe no editing by instruction. ImageQuarry is for working on one picture: describe or upload, ask for changes in words and keep every version. Choose Lexica to browse prompts and generate in volume. Choose ImageQuarry to refine.

_We make ImageQuarry. We compared it with Lexica using Lexica's own public pages, checked October 20, 2026, and say where Lexica does more._

## At a glance

| | ImageQuarry | Lexica |
|---|---|---|
| Main use | Create an image, then refine it through conversation | Search a public gallery of AI images and prompts, and generate with Lexica Aperture |
| Editing by instruction | Select a version and describe the change | Not described on Lexica's pages |
| Visibility | Work sits in your projects and library | Lexica: public by default; private only on Max |
| Price | Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month | Lexica: Starter USD 8, Pro USD 24, Max USD 48 a month, billed annually |
| Developer access | Not listed | Lexica: a search API that returns prompts, seeds and dimensions |

## ImageQuarry and Lexica: the differences that matter

- **A prompt library at your fingertips**: Lexica's search lets you look through other people's images with their prompts, and its API returns 50 results with prompt, seed, model and dimensions, including reverse image search. If you learn by example, that library is a real advantage. ImageQuarry starts from your own description or upload.
- **Generating versus editing**: Lexica's plans count fast generations, with each prompt submission using 4 credits, and its pages describe no instruction editing, inpainting or outpainting. ImageQuarry is built for the step after: select a version and ask for different lighting, a new background or an added object.
- **Public by default**: Lexica says "By default all images show up in Lexica search and other users may use them", and only Max plan images are private; its terms also grant Lexica a perpetual license to images and prompts. ImageQuarry keeps work in your own projects and library.
- **Volume at a fixed yearly price**: Lexica's Pro plan lists 3,000 fast generations a month plus slow generations with a daily cap, at USD 24 a month billed annually, as of October 2026. If your work is many images rather than many edits to one, that volume model may suit you better.
- **Commercial use tied to plan and company size**: Lexica requires a paid plan for commercial use, and says companies with 2 to 5 people need Pro while companies with more than 5 need Max. ImageQuarry has not published rights terms yet.

## About each product

- **ImageQuarry**: ImageQuarry is a conversational AI image workspace. You describe an image or upload one, then ask for specific changes in words, such as new lighting, a different background or an added object. Each change makes a new version and earlier versions are kept, so you can make variations, branch from any version, add reference images and organize the work in projects and a library. You can choose between four image models: Nano Banana 2.1 (the default), Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on. Every plan is paid. ImageQuarry has not published output specifications or rights terms yet, and it is not a headshot or background removal tool.
- **Lexica**: Lexica runs at lexica.art with Home, Generate, History, Likes and a search control, and its generator page is titled Lexica Aperture. Most gallery images were made with that model, and a selection with Stable Diffusion 1.5 are CC0. Plans are Starter, Pro and Max, billed annually, with more fast generations and privacy on higher tiers; extra fast generations cost USD 0.05 each and need an active plan. Lexica contradicts itself on a no cost plan: the account page says there is none, while the license page refers to one. Support runs through its Discord, and developers can query the search API.

## Which one fits your work

**Choose ImageQuarry when:**
- You want to change an image by describing the change
- You want your work kept in your own projects rather than a public gallery
- You want each version kept so you can branch from it
- You want to add reference images for material, color or light

**Choose Lexica when:**
- You want to browse a large library of images with their prompts
- You need a search API with prompts, seeds and dimensions
- You generate many images and want a large monthly volume on a yearly plan
- You like learning prompts from other people's examples

## How to try both on the same image

1. Search Lexica for a look you like and note the prompt behind it.
2. Generate with Lexica Aperture from that prompt and pick the closest result.
3. In ImageQuarry, write your own description of the same look and ask for two changes to make it fit your project.
4. Keep whichever path gave you the image you needed: Lexica's prompt, or ImageQuarry's refined version.
