# ImageQuarry vs Grok Imagine: images and video in an assistant, or an image workspace

Grok Imagine is the image and video generator of the Grok assistant. It creates and edits images, animates them into videos and offers an Imagine Agent Mode, on grok.com, iOS, Android, X and an API. Grok has a $0 tier, and The X Subscription plans run from $8 to $200 a month, as of October 2026. ImageQuarry is a workspace for still images: describe or upload a picture, ask for changes in words, keep every version and branch from any of them. Choose Grok Imagine if you want video from your pictures or API access. Choose ImageQuarry if you want a long, organized edit history for each image.

_We make ImageQuarry. We compared it with Grok Imagine using Grok Imagine's own public pages, checked October 20, 2026, and say where Grok Imagine does more._

## ImageQuarry and Grok Imagine: the differences that matter

- **Video from the same place**: Grok Imagine animates pictures into videos, and xAI's API lists video models priced from $0.02 to $0.08 per second at up to 1080p. If you need moving clips as well as stills, that range is a reason to pick Grok.
- **An API with published per-image prices**: xAI's developer docs price grok-imagine-image at $0.02 per image at 1K or 2K, with image input at $0.002, and allow up to 10 images per request. Developers can build on it directly.
- **Keeping and branching versions**: ImageQuarry keeps every change as a version beside its prompt and references, and you can branch from any earlier version or make variations to explore directions. The Grok pages read for this page describe creating, editing and iterating but do not document a version history.
- **A choice of image models**: ImageQuarry offers four image models by name: Nano Banana 2.1, the default, Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Grok Imagine uses xAI's own Grok Imagine models.
- **Plans and shared usage**: Grok's consumer plans moved to The X Subscription on October 12, 2026: $0, Plus at $8, Premium at $30, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200 a month, with usage shared across Grok and Cursor. ImageQuarry has two paid plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, or Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on.
- **A company in transition**: xAI's pages now title the vendor SpaceXSI while the footer reads SpaceXAI LLC, and its docs list an Imagine image quality retirement on November 2, 2026. Recheck the details before you commit.

## About each product

- **ImageQuarry**: ImageQuarry is a conversational AI image workspace. You describe an image or upload one, then ask for specific changes in words, such as new lighting, a different background or an added object. Each change makes a new version and earlier versions are kept, so you can make variations, branch from any version, add reference images and organize the work in projects and a library. You can choose between four image models: Nano Banana 2.1 (the default), Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst. Plans: Starter at $9 per month with 100 image credits a month, and Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, with optional metered overage that is off unless you turn it on. Every plan is paid. ImageQuarry has not published output specifications or rights terms yet, and it is not a headshot or background removal tool.
- **Grok Imagine**: Grok Imagine is the image and video generator of Grok, the assistant from the company whose pages are titled SpaceXSI. It creates and edits images, animates them into videos and offers an Imagine Agent Mode for fast iteration. In the API, grok-imagine-image-2.0 generates from text or edits with up to 5 reference images, up to 10 images per request, at $0.02 per image. Consumer access moved to The X Subscription on October 12, 2026, from $0 to $200 a month, with existing SuperGrok subscribers able to keep their plans. Grok runs on grok.com, iOS, Android, X and the API.
