# Generative AI by Getty Images alternatives for monthly plans and your own photos

Generative AI by Getty Images is Getty's commercially focused generator and modifier: it makes four images per click, edits them from plain-language instructions, and keeps generated images away from other licensees. People look elsewhere because it sells prepaid packs (25 generations for $49) that expire after a year, each edit uses a generation, and its FAQ says you can modify only images you create. Adobe Firefly is the closest fit for a monthly plan with stated commercial safety, Ideogram for typography, Shutterstock AI for model choice inside a stock library, and Bria for developers. ImageQuarry fits people who upload a photo and keep changing it by describing each step.

_We make ImageQuarry, one of the alternatives below. Generative AI by Getty Images and each alternative were compared on how you pay, editing your own photos, model choice, usage terms and editing by describing a change, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 20, 2026._

## What is Generative AI by Getty Images?

Getty sells two tools under one name: "Generate new images" and "Modify creative images". Each GENERATE click returns four images, and Getty's What's New log lists an April 2026 model update tied to a Bria partnership. Since June 2026 you can type the change you want in plain language, with "no masking, no brushes, no clicking required", alongside add or remove objects, replace background, extend image and remove background. Reference images steer color or composition, and downloads come in Medium or Large.

_Getty's generator is not a stock search: it creates new images, and those images are never offered to other customers to license._

## Generative AI by Getty Images pricing

These are prepaid packs, labeled introductory, not subscriptions. Generations expire one year from the agreement's effective date, are non-refundable, and each modification uses one generation. Prices as of October 2026, from gettyimages.com. Check the vendor for current pricing.

- Generative AI by Getty Images 25 generations: $49 one-time prepaid pack (Four images per generation; downloads do not use extra generations)
- Generative AI by Getty Images 100 generations: $149 one-time prepaid pack (Same tools as the smaller pack, expires after one year)
- Generative AI by Getty Images Enterprise: Custom per through sales (Custom number of generations; Getty describes uncapped legal protection)

Prices as of 2026-10.

## What Generative AI by Getty Images does well

- **Generations stay yours alone**: Getty says generated images are "never made available for others to license and use", and commercial use needs no attribution.
- **Type the change, no mask needed**: The modification page says you can customize a creative image "by simply typing in the change you'd like to see", and a Click tool selects objects for add, remove or replace edits.
- **History you can return to**: A tray tracks your modification history, Get variations makes four new takes, Keep look and feel holds the style of your last four generations, and generation history reaches back six months.
- **Legal cover and training claims**: Getty states that standard plans carry automatic legal protection of up to $50,000 per image and that its model was trained exclusively on licensed visuals. These are Getty's own claims.
- **Clean, large downloads in many languages**: Downloads are unwatermarked, the guide says they look best in 4K (Large), and prompts work in 75 languages.

## Where Generative AI by Getty Images falls short

- **Packs that expire**: Generations are prepaid in packs of 25 or 100 and expire one year from the agreement's effective date, with no monthly or annual subscription price stated.
- **Every edit costs a generation**: Each modification uses one generation from the same pack, and generations are non-refundable.
- **Mixed answers on uploading your own photos**: The modification FAQ says you can modify only images you create (plus library images), while the user guide lets you upload a reference or product photo.
- **The model is not named**: The AI page does not name the base model, and there is no model picker described; the only hint is a Bria partnership label on an April 2026 update.

## Why people look for a Generative AI by Getty Images alternative

- You would rather pay monthly than prepay for a pack of generations that expires after a year.
- You edit a lot, and with Getty each modification draws down the same generations you use to create.
- You want to change your own photos, and Getty's modification FAQ says the tool modifies only images you create.
- You want to choose between model families, while Getty does not name or offer a choice of model on its AI page.

## The 5 Generative AI by Getty Images alternatives

### 1. Adobe Firefly

Best for: Creative teams who want a monthly plan and Adobe's commercial safety statement
How it differs: Firefly sells monthly plans from US$9.99 instead of expiring packs, and its Edit tab takes your own JPEG, PNG or WebP files up to 100MB. You can pick Firefly Image 5 or partner models such as GPT Image 1.5 and FLUX.2, and Adobe says outputs from its own Firefly models are safe for commercial use.
Price: Firefly Standard at US$9.99/mo, billed monthly (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: The commercial safety statement does not extend to partner models, and IP indemnification is for eligible enterprise customers.

### 2. Ideogram

Best for: Ad and poster makers who need clean type and a monthly subscription
How it differs: Ideogram's Plus plan is $20 a month and includes private generation and editing of uploaded images, which Getty's FAQ rules out. Its catalog mixes Ideogram's own models with other labs' models, and it says you are free to use images for any purpose, including commercial use.
Price: $20 a month for Plus (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Free and lower tiers publish images to the community by default, and Getty-style legal protection is not listed.

### 3. Shutterstock AI

Best for: Stock buyers who want several model families behind a licensed download
How it differs: Shutterstock's generator, as archived in October 2026, lets you choose GPT Image 2, Imagen 4 Ultra, Gemini 3.1 Flash or Runway's Gen-4, where Getty offers one unnamed model. Its Generative AI Plus plan is monthly, with 100 generations of four images, and each download includes a Standard License.
Price: Generative AI Plus, price not shown on the archived page (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: On some plans generations may be added to the Shutterstock library for others to license, and exclusivity is not guaranteed.

### 4. ImageQuarry

Best for: Reworking your own uploaded photo through a long run of described edits
How it differs: Getty's FAQ limits modification to images you create there, and each edit draws on a prepaid pack. ImageQuarry starts from your upload or a description, and each change you ask for becomes a new version while earlier versions stay. It is a monthly subscription, and you choose between four models, with Nano Banana 2.1 as the default.
Price: Monthly: Starter $9, Pro $29 (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: It has no published Terms or rights policy yet, unlike Getty's stated protections, and every plan is paid.

### 5. Bria

Best for: Product teams who want licensed-data models inside their own software
How it differs: Bria says its models are trained only on licensed data from Getty Images, Alamy and Envato, so it suits buyers who chose Getty for its training story but want to call the models from code. It charges per image, for example $0.032 for Fibo Edit, instead of selling expiring packs.
Price: From $0.018 per generation, pay as you go (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Pay as you go carries capped indemnification, with unlimited indemnification on custom-priced Enterprise, and the consumer-style Bria Create app sits behind a request form.

## Who should stay with Generative AI by Getty Images

- Your legal team wants Getty's stated legal protection of up to $50,000 per image, or uncapped protection on Enterprise.
- You need generations that no other customer can ever license, and you are comfortable buying packs.
- You generate a modest, predictable number of images a year and the six months of generation history covers your reuse.

## How to try an alternative alongside Getty's generator

1. Download the Large versions of images you want to keep; downloads do not use generations, and history only reaches back six months.
2. Check how many generations are left in your pack and when they expire, so you use them before the one-year mark.
3. Save the prompts and the Color or Composition references behind your best results.
4. Try your next brief in the alternative, and read its usage terms against what your legal team expects from Getty.

Does not carry over: Getty's legal protection applies to images made with Getty, not to images you create elsewhere.; Unused Getty generations are non-refundable.

## Generative AI by Getty Images alternatives: questions

### Is there a cheaper alternative to Getty Images AI?

Adobe Firefly Standard is US$9.99 a month and Ideogram Plus $20 a month, both billed monthly, while Getty's smallest pack is 25 generations for $49 that expire after a year. Bria charges per image, from $0.018. The units differ, so compare what you actually make.

### Can I edit my own photos with Getty's generator?

Getty's pages disagree: the modification FAQ says you can modify only images you create, while the user guide lets you upload your own image as a reference or product photo. Adobe Firefly's Edit tab and Ideogram Plus both take uploaded images.

### Which alternative is trained on licensed images like Getty?

Bria says all its models are trained only on licensed data from Getty Images, Alamy and Envato. Adobe says Firefly models are trained on Adobe Stock and public domain content. Both are the vendors' own claims.

### Does Getty's generator have an API?

Getty's AI page links to a separate API page for integration. Bria is built around APIs, SDKs and plugins, and Ideogram sells API access with pay as you go credits.

### How does ImageQuarry compare with Getty for editing in words?

Both let you type the change you want. In ImageQuarry you can also start from an image you upload, and every change becomes a new version you can branch from later. ImageQuarry plans are monthly, at $9 for Starter and $29 for Pro.
