# Civitai alternatives for LoRA users who want to keep their images

Civitai is a community hub at civitai.com for sharing open image models and LoRAs, with an on-site generator for SD 1.5, SDXL, Flux and hosted models such as Nano Banana, paid for in Buzz. People look elsewhere mainly because generations you do not post are kept for only 30 days, and because the generator guide does not mention inpainting. ComfyUI runs the same models and LoRAs locally with inpainting built in, Mage hosts LoRAs with plain monthly prices, NovelAI suits anime work, and SeaArt or Tensor.Art keep the community feel. ImageQuarry suits people who would rather describe edits to one image and keep every version in a library.

_We make ImageQuarry, one of the alternatives below. Civitai and each alternative were compared on community models and LoRAs, how long images are kept, region editing, how usage is paid for, and output sizes, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 20, 2026._

## What is Civitai?

Civitai's homepage title is "Civitai, Discover and Create AI Art", with sections for models, images, videos, 3D models, articles and comics. Its education site describes the generator as "a web-based interface for Stable Diffusion" that combines SD 1.5, SDXL and Flux with community models, LoRA and embeddings. Hosted Nano Banana models take edits written "as a plain instruction", and the homepage announces the OpenMOSS image model for "Text that reads right, layouts you control". Usage is paid in Buzz, and Civitai's pricing page says unrestricted content creation has moved to civitai.red.

_Civitai is a model library first: the generator exists so you can try the models and LoRAs the community shares._

## Civitai pricing

Only monthly prices are listed; no annual billing is shown. Every tier includes ad free browsing and the Creator Program, and bonus Buzz on purchases is 5% on Bronze, 10% on Silver and 20% on Gold. A perks-only membership can also be bought with Buzz instead of cash. Prices as of October 2026, from civitai.com. Check the vendor for current pricing.

- Civitai Bronze: $10 per month, billed monthly (10,000 Green Buzz a month, 8 images per job, 3 private models)
- Civitai Silver: $25 per month, billed monthly (25,000 Green Buzz a month, 10 images per job, 10 private models)
- Civitai Gold: $50 per month, billed monthly (50,000 Green Buzz a month, 12 images per job, 100 private models)

Prices as of 2026-10.

## What Civitai does well

- **Community models, LoRAs and embeddings in one generator**: The on-site generator combines SD 1.5, SDXL and Flux with community models, LoRA and embeddings, and the homepage adds the OpenMOSS model with prompts "up to 4K tokens".
- **Multi-turn edits with hosted Nano Banana**: Civitai's Nano Banana page says "For edits, write the change as a plain instruction" and "Edit in multiple turns for complex changes", across the original, Pro and 2 models.
- **Remix, fixes and upscaling**: The generator offers image to image, Face Fix, Hi-res Fix, upscaling by 1.5x to 3x, Remix from another user's image and image to video.
- **A daily free allowance and a developer API**: Users get free Buzz every 24 hours for logging in and opening the generator, and the footer links an API with developer docs at developer.civitai.com.
- **Ways to pay without cash**: A perks-only membership can be bought with Buzz, and Gold members get Blue Buzz daily rewards at a 4x multiplier.

## Where Civitai falls short

- **Unposted images are kept for 30 days**: The generator guide says images not posted to a profile "will be retained for 30 days from their creation date".
- **No inpainting in the generator guide**: The guide lists image to image, Face Fix, Hi-res Fix and upscaling, and inpainting is not mentioned. The guide was last updated in November 2024.
- **Output sizes tied to older model families**: The guide lists SD 1.5 sizes of 512x512, 768x512 and 512x768, and SDXL sizes of 1024x1024, 1216x832 and 832x1216.
- **The free allowance is not quantified**: Civitai gives "a certain amount of free Buzz every 24 hours" without stating how much.

## Why people look for a Civitai alternative

- You want generations kept without posting them publicly, and Civitai keeps unposted images for 30 days from creation.
- You want to repaint one area of an image, and Civitai's generator guide does not mention inpainting.
- You want to know what you get for free, and the daily Buzz allowance has no stated amount.
- You need larger outputs than the SD 1.5 and SDXL sizes the guide lists, which top out at 1216 by 832 pixels.

## The 6 Civitai alternatives

### 1. ComfyUI

Best for: LoRA users with their own GPU who want files and workflows on their own disk
How it differs: ComfyUI is the local counterpart to Civitai's generator: it loads SD 1.5, SDXL, Flux and newer models with your LoRAs, and lists built-in inpainting, outpainting, masks and model merging. Because it runs offline on your machine, images stay where you save them, and workflows save as JSON.
Price: Open source under GPL v3; Comfy Cloud from $20 a month (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: It is a node graph you assemble yourself, and running it locally needs a GPU.

### 2. Mage

Best for: People who want hosted LoRAs and inpainting with prices stated in dollars each month
How it differs: Mage's Basic plan at $10 a month includes LoRAs, inpainting and its Refine app, and its Inpaint app edits "specific areas of any image with a mask and prompt". Your work is listed under My Creations and is private by default on every plan, where Civitai keeps unposted images for 30 days.
Price: Basic at $10 monthly; 300 Gems free at sign-up (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Mango 3 tops out at 2K, with 3K and 4K models only on Pro Plus and above at $60 a month.

### 3. ImageQuarry

Best for: People who want to describe edits to one image and keep the whole history in a library
How it differs: Civitai's Nano Banana edits run turn by turn, and unposted results expire after 30 days. In ImageQuarry, each change you describe becomes a new version, and versions stay in the workspace with the prompts, sources and references that made them. Projects and a persistent library let you come back to earlier images and their history.
Price: $9 monthly (Starter) or $29 monthly (Pro) (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Every plan is paid, there are no community models or LoRAs, and ImageQuarry publishes no rights policy yet.

### 4. NovelAI

Best for: Anime artists who want an anime model trained by the vendor and inpainting
How it differs: NovelAI runs its own NovelAI Diffusion models, built from scratch from V4 on, instead of community checkpoints. It has inpainting, Director Tools to change clothing, lighting or poses, and image to image with a strength setting. Opus at $25 a month includes images up to 1024 by 1024 without spending Anlas, within usage limits.
Price: Tablet $10 a month; 30 trial images on Paper (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Generated images are not stored on its servers unless you save them, and it is built for anime style only.

### 5. SeaArt

Best for: Community-minded creators who also want inpainting and phone apps
How it differs: SeaArt keeps the community side people like on Civitai, and its image to image tool includes inpainting to "Remove unwanted objects, fix defects, or add new elements". It upscales up to 8x and links iOS and Android apps.
Price: 130 Stamina a day free; paid tiers shown billed annually (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Work is visible to others unless the Private Generation privilege is enabled, and paid prices were not readable in the page text.

### 6. Tensor.Art

Best for: People who want another hosted library of checkpoints and LoRAs, plus training
How it differs: Tensor.Art is the most direct swap for Civitai's model library: it hosts community checkpoints and LoRAs you run on site, and its navigation includes a Library, Train and Workflows. Its app release notes mention inpaint support.
Price: USD 9.90 for a 30-day Pro Plan in the App Store (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Its App Store prices differ from its own 2024 notice, and the site answered scripted visits with a bot challenge.

## Who should stay with Civitai

- You browse, download and share community models and LoRAs, which is what Civitai is built for.
- You monetize model versions through the Creator Program, which all memberships include.
- You post your generations to your profile anyway, so the 30-day limit on unposted images does not affect you.
- You build on Civitai's API and developer docs.

## How to try an alternative alongside Civitai

1. Download any generations you have not posted, since Civitai keeps unposted images for 30 days from creation.
2. Record the checkpoint, LoRA and embedding names and weights behind your favorite images, so you can load them in ComfyUI or find them on another host.
3. If you use Civitai Link to sync resources to your machine, keep those local copies for a local tool.
4. Run one LoRA-led image and one edit-led image in the alternative and compare them with your Civitai results.
5. Check the license of each community model before you use it elsewhere, since terms are set per model.

Does not carry over: Buzz balances, membership perks, Creator Program earnings and profile reactions stay on Civitai.

## Civitai alternatives: questions

### What is a good Civitai alternative for LoRAs?

ComfyUI loads LoRAs locally and keeps everything on your own disk. Mage includes LoRAs on its Basic plan, and Tensor.Art hosts community checkpoints and LoRAs much as Civitai does. Comfy Cloud Creator can import LoRAs from CivitAI or Huggingface.

### Is there a free alternative to Civitai?

ComfyUI is open source and runs on your own machine. Hosted tools with a no-cost start include Mage, with a 300 Gems sign-up bonus, and SeaArt, with 130 Stamina a day. Civitai itself gives free Buzz every 24 hours. Every ImageQuarry plan is paid.

### How long does Civitai keep generated images?

Images not posted to your profile are retained for 30 days from their creation date, according to Civitai's generator guide.

### Which Civitai alternative has inpainting?

ComfyUI has built-in inpainting and masks, Mage has an Inpaint app, NovelAI has inpainting and Director Tools, and SeaArt's image to image tool includes inpainting. Civitai's generator guide does not mention inpainting.

### How does ImageQuarry compare with Civitai?

They do different jobs. Civitai is a library of community models with a generator. ImageQuarry is a workspace where you create an image, ask for changes in words, and keep every version in projects and a library.
