# BeFunky alternatives for AI photo editing and design

BeFunky is a browser photo editor, collage maker and graphic designer that has built photo tools since 2007, now with Smart Edit for natural language changes and an AI Image Generator. People look elsewhere because BeFunky names none of its AI models, monthly AI credits do not roll over, and batch AI editing needs the Pro plan at US$24.99 a month. Pixlr fits people who want named models and a saved edit history at a low price, Fotor fits credits that carry over, Picsart and MyEdit fit model choice, and Canva fits design-heavy work. ImageQuarry fits people who want each described edit kept as a version they can branch from.

_We make ImageQuarry, one of the alternatives below. BeFunky and each alternative were compared on editing in words, model choice, how long usage lasts, batch editing, design tools and price, using each vendor's public pages, checked October 20, 2026._

## What is BeFunky?

BeFunky calls itself "an online creative platform that combines a professional photo editor, collage maker, graphic designer" with AI editing tools. Its Smart Edit lets you "make targeted changes to your photos using natural language", with Variation to explore options and Fidelity to control how closely the result matches the original. Other AI tools include an Image Expander, an upscaler up to 4x, a Background Remover and an Object Eraser. It runs in desktop browsers and Chromebooks and in apps for iPhone, iPad and Android.

_BeFunky is an editor and design tool first; its AI Image Generator is one feature among many, not the center of the product._

## BeFunky pricing

- BeFunky Free: $0 per no account required (Many tools free to use or to preview)

## What BeFunky does well

- **Smart Edit in plain language**: Describe a change such as "Replace the baseball cap with a knitted beanie" and Smart Edit generates an updated version, with Variation and Fidelity controls to tune the result.
- **Editor, collage maker and designer in one**: BeFunky combines a photo editor, a collage maker and a graphic designer, and has made online photo editing tools since 2007.
- **A wide set of AI photo tools**: Image Expander, an AI Image Upscaler up to 4x, Background Remover and Object Eraser sit next to Smart Edit.
- **Start without an account**: BeFunky says you can use it for free with no account required, and many tools are free to use or preview.
- **Web and mobile on one subscription**: It runs in desktop browsers and on Chromebooks, plus apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, and a subscription works across supported devices.

## Where BeFunky falls short

- **No AI models are named**: Smart Edit names no model, and BeFunky's Pro plan lists access to its "most advanced AI models" without naming them.
- **Monthly credits expire**: Monthly AI credits do not roll over; only top-up credits carry over, and only while you subscribe.
- **Batch AI work is Pro only**: Batch AI Editing and Batch Background Remover are limited to Pro at US$24.99 a month billed monthly.
- **The generator page is gone**: The old AI Image Generator feature page returns HTTP 410 Gone, so the generator is described only on the pricing page.

## Why people look for a BeFunky alternative

- You want to know or choose which AI model edits your photo, and BeFunky names none.
- You use AI in bursts and lose credits, since BeFunky's monthly AI credits do not roll over.
- You edit many photos at once, and batch AI editing and batch background removal need the US$24.99 Pro plan.
- You want AI image generation described on its own page, and BeFunky's generator feature page now returns 410 Gone.

## The 6 BeFunky alternatives

### 1. Pixlr

Best for: Budget editors who want named models and a saved history of edits
How it differs: Pixlr is a browser editor with 20+ tools, like BeFunky, but it names its models, such as Nano Banana 2, Flux and Stable Diffusion XL. Its Instruct Editor takes a natural language prompt and saves up to 10 versions, so you can continue from an earlier one or download it, and credit packs bought as top-ups never expire.
Price: Free without an account; Plus $2.49 a month billed monthly (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Plus includes only 80 monthly AI credits although the Instruct Editor FAQ promises unlimited editing, and publishing AI content on Pixlr grants it a broad license.

### 2. Fotor

Best for: People who edit with AI some months and not others
How it differs: Fotor is an online photo editor and design tool whose unused credits roll over for up to 5 months while you subscribe, where BeFunky's monthly credits lapse. It names its models, including Nano Banana, FLUX and GPT Image, and you describe a change in plain text to edit an image.
Price: Fotor Basic free; Pro listed at 8.99 on a separate pricing page (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: The main pricing page loads its prices by script, and the separate page shows two different annual prices for each plan, so confirm the price at checkout.

### 3. Picsart

Best for: Editors who want to pick from many models and bulk edit for less than BeFunky Pro
How it differs: Picsart lets you choose among 65 AI models, from GPT Image 2.5 Flare to Ideogram 4.5 with masked edits, while BeFunky does not name its models. Picsart Pro includes bulk editing of up to 50 images at $15 a month, against US$24.99 for BeFunky Pro, both billed monthly.
Price: Free daily generations; Pro $15 a month, or $10.5 a month billed yearly (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Its FAQ says usage rights depend on the specific model and your plan, so check each model's licensing.

### 4. MyEdit

Best for: Occasional users who want chat editing with a named model each day at no cost
How it differs: MyEdit, from CyberLink, edits photos by chatting with AI and tells you which model does it: Nano Banana for quick iterations or Flux for high fidelity work. A smart brush limits the change to the area you select, and free accounts can claim 3 credits every day.
Price: 3 credits a day at no cost; Business Pro $15 month to month (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: No version history is described for Edit by Chat, and each day's free credits last one month.

### 5. ImageQuarry

Best for: Photo edits that take several described rounds, with a way back to each step
How it differs: BeFunky's Smart Edit returns an updated image with Variation and Fidelity controls. ImageQuarry keeps every described edit as its own version, so you can compare them, return to one, or branch from an earlier step. You choose among four named models (Nano Banana 2.1 by default, Nano Banana Pro, GPT Image 2.5 Flare and GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst) for the same request.
Price: Paid only: Starter $9 or Pro $29 per month (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: ImageQuarry has no batch editing, collage maker or design templates, and every plan is paid.

### 6. Canva

Best for: People who use BeFunky mainly for collages and graphics
How it differs: If BeFunky's collage maker and graphic designer are what you use most, Canva covers that ground as a full design suite. Its help center, read through search indexed text, describes Magic Edit as brushing over part of a photo and describing what to add or replace, and lists Magic Eraser, an AI Image Expander and an Image Upscaler.
Price: Canva Free; Canva Pro US$18 a month when paid month to month (indexed pricing) (as of 2026-10)
Limitation: Canva's free plan caps Standard and Premium AI tools at 20 uses a month on its indexed pricing page, and two indexed copies of that page show different prices.

## Who should stay with BeFunky

- You switch between photo editing, collages and graphic design in one browser tab, which BeFunky combines.
- Smart Edit's Variation and Fidelity controls give you the kind of targeted change you need.
- You start without an account and the free or preview tools cover most of what you do.
- You pay for Pro and use Batch AI Editing and Batch Background Remover regularly.

## How to try an alternative alongside BeFunky

1. Download the edited photos and designs you want to keep working on from BeFunky before you change plans.
2. Use up monthly AI credits before the month ends, since they do not roll over; top-up credits only carry over while you subscribe.
3. Repeat two or three of your usual Smart Edit requests, such as a background swap, word for word in the alternative and compare the results.
4. Keep BeFunky for collages and graphics while the new tool handles AI edits, then decide which subscription to keep.

Does not carry over: Saved watermarks from BeFunky's Watermark Manager and unused AI credits stay in BeFunky.
