Describe a zen room built around stillness, order and natural light
Zen interiors take their cues from Japanese Zen Buddhist temples and gardens: rooms kept almost empty, everything in its place, natural materials such as wood, stone, bamboo and paper, low furniture, soft indirect light and often a connection to a garden, water or a single natural object. The aim is a space that quietens the mind. In ImageQuarry you can describe such a room or upload your own and ask for it simplified and softened, then refine the calm through new versions.
Ask for order and emptiness first, then one natural focal point.

- 01
Upload or describe the space

- 02
Clear and order
Ask for clutter to be removed and for storage to be closed, leaving open floor and clear surfaces.
- 03
Add natural elements
Select a version and add a low wooden platform, a tatami style mat, a paper screen, a stone or a bonsai, one at a time.
- 04
Soften the light
Ask for soft, indirect light and compare versions until the room feels still.
Zen requests to start from
Requests you could write. Each one becomes a new version to compare.
Clear the room
Order before anything else.
Low platform
Sitting and sleeping near the floor.
Paper screens
Soft, diffused light and a quieter view.
Stone and water
Natural focal points.
Bonsai or branch
One living element.
Garden view
Looking out to nature.
What makes a room read as zen
Zen interiors are about how a room feels as much as how it looks. These traits produce that sense of calm.
Emptiness and order
Clear floors, closed storage and few objects make the mind rest. Each object has its place.
Natural materials
Wood, stone, bamboo, paper, linen and water, in their natural colors.
Low, simple furniture
Low tables, floor cushions and platform beds keep the eye line down.
Soft light and nature
Diffused daylight, paper lamps and views of a garden or a single plant.
Change it in words
Select a version and describe the change, such as removing clutter or adding a paper screen; each change is a new version.
Branch for stillness
Branch from any earlier version to try a barer direction while keeping the other.

What is zen interior design?
Zen interior design is a calm style inspired by Japanese Zen temples and gardens, using emptiness and order, low natural wood furniture, paper, stone and water, and soft diffused light to create a restful space.
It is not the same as Japandi, which blends Japanese and Scandinavian design for everyday living; zen is stricter and more contemplative, closer to a meditation space.
Zen interior questions
Can I turn a corner of my room into a zen space?
Upload a photo, select it and ask for the corner cleared with a cushion, a low table and a plant, naming what to keep. The new version sits next to your original.
What is the difference between zen and minimalist?
Minimalism focuses on having fewer things; zen adds natural materials, soft light and a contemplative mood.
Which colors are zen?
Natural wood, white, stone grey, sand and moss green.
Can I build the space up gradually?
Yes. Each request builds on the version you selected, so you can add or remove one element at a time.
Can a temple garden photo guide the look?
Add it as a reference. It can guide the result; review each version to judge how much of its stillness came through.
Can I download the final version?
Compare the versions you made, choose the calmest and download it.
What do plans cost?
Plans are paid monthly: Pro at $29 per month with 300 image credits a month, or the smaller Starter plan.
Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.
Describe a room that slows you down
Upload your space or describe one, clear it, add natural elements one by one, and keep the calmest version.
