Design a walk in closet that holds everything and shows it well
A walk in closet works when everything has a place: long hanging for coats and dresses, double hanging for shirts, drawers for folded things, shelves for shoes and bags, and enough light to see colors. Most fail on one of those, or turn into a dark storage room. In ImageQuarry you upload a photo of the closet, the box room or the end of a bedroom you want to convert, and ask for the layout in words, one change at a time, keeping every version.
A concept for layout and finish. Sizes, joinery and wiring are confirmed with a fitter.

How to plan a walk in closet with ImageQuarry
- 01
Photograph the empty space
Take a straight-on photo of the back wall and one of each side if you can. Empty is best; fitted closets are easier to see in a clear room.
- 02
Lay out hanging and drawers
Ask for long hanging on one side and double hanging plus drawers on the other, or an island in the middle if the space allows.
- 03
Add the finishing layer
Ask for lighting inside the units, a full-length mirror, a bench or a rug.
- 04
Compare finishes
Try painted fronts, wood and open shelving as separate versions and compare them.
Walk in closet requests to start from
Two-sided layout
Hanging on both sides with a clear walkway is the most common walk in plan.
An island
An island with drawers works in wider closets and adds a surface for packing.
Shoe wall
Angled or flat shoe shelves on the end wall turn shoes into a display.
Lit hanging rails
LED strips in the units help see clothes clearly.
Convert a spare room
A small bedroom becomes a dressing room with units on three walls.
Glass doors
Glass fronts keep dust out and still show the contents.
What a good walk in closet needs
Mix of hanging heights
Long items need full height; shirts and jackets fit on two rails one above the other. Most wardrobes need more double hanging than people expect.
Drawers for folded clothes
Knitwear and T-shirts keep their shape folded rather than hung, and a bank of drawers leaves the rails for what must hang.
Light inside the units
Overhead light alone leaves the bottom of the closet in shadow; light inside the units shows true colors.
A clear walkway
A walk in closet needs room to stand and open drawers. A concept can look roomy while the real space is tight, so measure.
Start from the space you have
Upload a photo of the room and describe the layout; each request produces a new version and the earlier versions remain.
Refine without restarting
Adjust shelves, finishes and lighting with small requests, each building on the version you chose.
Closet zones and example requests
| Zone | What it holds | Example request |
|---|---|---|
| Long hanging | Coats, dresses, trousers | A full-height rail on the left wall |
| Double hanging | Shirts, jackets, skirts | Two rails one above the other on the right wall |
| Drawers | Folded clothes, accessories | A stack of six wide drawers under the window |
| Shelves | Shoes, bags, boxes | Open shelves on the back wall for shoes and bags |
| Extras | Getting dressed | A full-length mirror and a small upholstered bench |
What is AI walk in closet design?
AI walk in closet design is picturing a dressing room or walk in wardrobe, from a description or a photo of the space you want to convert, by asking an image model for hanging, drawers, shelves and lighting in plain words. ImageQuarry keeps every change as a version.
It is not a fitted wardrobe plan with sizes. A fitter will confirm what fits, how deep the units are and where the lights are wired.
Walk in closet questions
Can I turn a spare room into a walk in closet?
Yes. Upload a photo of the room and describe the units you want on each wall. ImageQuarry makes a new version and keeps the original.
Can I compare wood and painted units?
Make each finish its own version, or branch from the same layout version twice so only the finish differs.
How do I keep the window and the door?
Name them as things to keep in the request, then compare the new version with the original to see how closely it kept them.
Will the image show me how much fits?
It shows a layout idea, not capacity. Count your long and short items and confirm the real hanging length with a fitter.
Can I use a boutique I liked as a reference?
Yes, attach a photo of it. A reference shows a direction such as a material or light; it guides the result, and each version shows how closely it followed it.
Where do I keep the design?
In a project in your library, with every version and request that made it.
Create an image. Edit it with words. Keep refining.

Upload a photo of the space, lay out hanging, drawers and shelves in words, and compare every version.
